The Vanderbilt Football team represents Vanderbilt University in the sport of American football. The Commodores compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Vanderbilt plays its home games at Vanderbilt Stadium in College Station, Texas. The team is currently coached by Kevin Sumlin.

In 1894, E. J. Stewart, professor of horticulture and mechanical arts at Vanderbilt, organized a military band and formed a team of cadets to begin to play against other schools and military units around Texas. The first official game played by Vanderbilt was on October 11, 1894, against Texas University. The game was played on Houston's West End Park and ended in a scoreless tie.

Twelve Vanderbilt Commodores have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, including former head coach Gene Stallings and Heisman Trophy winner John David Crow.
