The Blazers have won 13 out of their past 15 games, and the team is now firmly in grasp of the playoffs sitting at No.7, with the same record as the 6th place Dallas Mavericks. With the Grizzlies losing Gasol for the season and expected to fall down, Portland might get as high as No.5 in the standings, which would surely be a success for a team that was expected to miss the playoffs. But point guard Damian Lillard and shooting guard C.J. McCollum are playing out of their minds lately, and they can surely compete for a top backcourt award. Last week, the Blazers played four games, and managed to win three out of them. They failed to beat the Houston Rockets, as they were unable to stop James Harden who scored 43 points. But the Blazers rebounded nicely with wins against the Bulls and Pacers on the road. Lillard was the scoring leader in both games, posting 31 against the Bulls and 33 against the Pacers which has helped Head Coach Terry Stotts win Coach of the Month.

  • 01/11/2016

The Blazers snapped their three game losing streak with a big win against division rival Oklahoma City Thunder, in a game in which Damian Lillard led the charge with 31 points, hitting eight three point shots. With more than two minutes left in the game, it seemed like the Blazers will lose their fourth game in a row, but then Dame took over. Hitting three point shot after three point shot, Lillard go the Blazers up by 3 points and then helped seal the 115-110 win. Previously, the Blazers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers and the Golden State Warriors. Against the Warriors, Lillard had one of his best games of the season, scoring 40 points to go along with 10 assists, but it just wasn’t enough to beat the Warriors, as Thompson scored 36 points.

  • 01/05/2016

According to latest reports, star point guard Damian Lillard is close to return, and the team could surely use as the Blazers are entering a critical stretch of games playing against the upper echelon of the Western Conference. Last week, the Blazers went 2-1 without Lillard, beating the Nuggets twice and falling to the Utah Jazz. C.J.McCollum continues to play the hero in Lillard’s absence, scoring 29, 32 and 25 points to lead the Blazers in each of the three games. The shooting guard also added six and seven assists in the loss to the Jazz and win to the Nuggets. Lillard was scheduled to play against the Nuggets, but the point guard was scratched before tip-off, leaving open the possibility of playing against the Memphis Grizzlies Monday night or against the Clippers Wednesday night.

  • 12/29/2015

The Blazers had a 50-50 week, losing two games and winning two as well. Star point guard Damian Lillard missed all four games with a nagging plantar fasciitis injury. He is expected soon, but the team will look to give the young player as much rest as needed. The Blazers lost to the Atlanta Hawks and the New Orleans Pelicans, but beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-76 and the Sacramento Kings. In Lillard’s absence, it was C.J. McCollum who had to carry the team. The third year guard had one of his best games against Sacramento, nearly missing a triple-double with 35 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists. Allen Crabbe, starting in place of Lillard, had his best career game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team that drafted him. Crabbe scored 26 points on 8-15 shooting to go along with 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

  • 12/22/2015

The Blazers lost all but one of their four games last week, falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat. All three loses came on the road, with the win against the New Orleans Pelicans at home to start the week. Lillard and McCollum took turns for the leading scorer of the Blazers, but the others were not providing much help. Lillard led the Blazers against the Pelicans with 30 points and against the Heat with 32 points. C.J. McCollum scored 24 points against the Thunder and 27 against the Magic. The Blazers have tough time against Eastern Conference teams this season, as the loss to the Magic got them to 1-8 against the East. Going back to last season, the Blazers have lost 12 of the past 13 games playing against teams from the Eastern Conference. The team also fell to 10-3 when they score 105 points or more. In the games the Blazers fail to score 105 points, they are 1-15.

  • 10/20/2015

The Blazers improved to a 3-2 record for the preseason, winning their latest game against the Utah Jazz. The Blazers were trailing for most of the game, but in the last quarter, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum caught fire and got the Blazers the victory. Lillard finished with 32 points, while McCollum added 26. Those two were the primary ball handlers as well, with Damian dishing 6 assists and McCollum 9. But it was mostly a team-effort by the Blazers that got them the victory. And that is exactly the way Lillard wants it. Speaking with the media lately, the point guard said that next season everything will be team-effort, and he won’t be the hero. He doesn’t want the focus to be on his play, as he believes every other member of the team is equally valuable to the success. Portland’s Coach Terry Stotts is still tinkering with the lineup, and one interesting option is sliding Meyers Leonard to the power forward spot to make room for Mason Plumlee at center in the starting lineup.

The Blazers are among the first teams in the NBA to announce their pre-season schedule. Portland announced the schedule during the weekend, and according to the schedule, the Blazers will host the Champions, Golden State Warriors. The Blazers will also play the Utah Jazz and the Sacramento Kings twice during the preseason. To top if all, the Blazers will get a quick look at Hollywood, playing against the Lakers and the Clippers. The Blazers open their preseason on October 5 at home against the Kings, and finish on October 22 against the Clippers on the road. On unrelated news, the Blazers will be happy to know that their offseason acquisition, Mason Plumlee, will attend team USA minicamp in Vegas. Plumlee will get the chance to compete for a roster spot with 34 other players. The Blazers consider Plumlee to be part of their future, and they would if he further improves his game. Plumlee is on a rookie-scale contract for the next two years.

It is official; the Blazers will have a completely new starting five next year. Damian Lillard will be the only player in the starting five that has played previously for Portland. After trading Nicolas Batum, the Blazers lost the bid for Lamarcus Aldridge, and Robyn Lopez and Wesley Matthews were already gone. The starting unit was the strength of the Blazers the past two years, and now they will have completely new starting five. The Blazers signed Ed Davis and traded for Mason Plumlee, which should cover them on the front. They also signed Al-Farouq Aminu for what is now considered a bargain deal. The projected starting five of the Blazers for next year could be: Lillard, Henderson, Aminu, Davis and Plumlee. That group would lack shooting, but they are tough, great defenders and excellent rebounders. The one question that remains to be answered is whether Lillard is a franchise player? The Blazers sure hope he is, after giving him the five year “designated” player contract.

  • 06/29/2015

Just days before free agency hits, the rumors about Lamarcus Aldridge leaving the Trail Blazers are heating up. General manager Neil Olshey said that the rumors are not true, but the moves that Portland made before the draft might suggest otherwise. The Blazers did some precaution moves to make sure that even without Aldridge, they will be a competitive team. The team traded their 23th pick in the draft for Mason Plumlee, a power forward/center from the Brooklyn Nets. If they manage to resign Aldridge, the team intends to pair those two together and live without Robyn Lopez. The Trail Blazers also traded Nicholas Batum for guard Gerald Henderson, another precaution making sure they can live without Wesley Matthews. The move also allowed the Blazers to clear cap space, giving them more money to offer Lamarcus and another good player to pair with him.

  • 04/16/2015

The Trail Blazers finished the regular season as the fourth seed in the West, but only because they won the Northwest division. The seeding got them a meeting with the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round. Portland will start their playoff hunt on the road, and versus a team they were 0-4 in the regular season. But the bigger issues are injuries to key players, as Portland was without Chris Kaman, Nicolas Batum and C.J. McCollum in their last game of the season versus Dallas. Batum and McCollum got injured the previous game versus OKC, and they might sit just for precaution.

  • 04/06/2015

If the NBA Playoffs started today the Portland Trail Blazers would be tipping off against the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round. Portland has dropped three of the four meetings against LA. The Blazers who are 6-4 in their last ten outings still have the Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks to face in their last few games. LaMarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum and Chris Kaman will be sitting out in the game against the Brooklyn Nets all to rest various injuries. LaMarcus is leading Portland with 23.4 points per game and 10.3 rebounds a game.
