Jack Skellington is the pumpkin king of Halloween Town. Every year, the townsfolk do the same thing over and over again for Halloween and Jack Skellington is bored to tears. One day, as he roams around dejected and bored, he stumbles into Christmas Town and is completely enamored by the whole idea of Christmas. He wants the Christmas tree, the lights and the whole Christmas cheer for Halloween Town as well. The pumpkin king tries to persuade all the ghouls, bats, goblins and other scary things that are resident in the Halloween Town to put on Christmas instead of Halloween. But somehow, perhaps it was because they were not quite used to it, they just could not get it right.
The frustrated pumpkin king kidnaps Santa Claus from Christmas Town. Jack then takes off in the reindeer chariot to distribute Christmas gifts. A notice is put out to warn people of the impersonator. Jack and Santa later become good friends. Jack frees Santa who hurries off to fix the ruined Christmas. Jack and Sally the doll fall in love, they sing to each other and realize that they are meant to be together. Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king, bungles into many misadventures in this highly entertaining story.
