Motown: The Musical at the Los Angeles Pantages Theater is a Broadway jukebox musical. Berry Gordy based wrote an autobiography in 1994 called To Be Loved. Pantages Theater Motown is based on his book. Berry Gordy WAS Motown. During the 1960's he founded and ran Motown record label. He talks in the book about his relationships with many of his biggest artists. Some of the stars depicted in the book and the Broadway play are Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and Michael Jackson. The music and verses for the musical are taken from the actual Motown rolodex of songs. Motown The musical finally debuted on Broadway in April 2013. It was so successful that at the 67th Tony Awards, the musical earned four Tony Award nominations.
The Pantages Theater Motown: The Musical originally debuted on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater on April 14, 2013. The original was directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, choreographed by Patricia Wilcox, the stage design was provided by David Korins, the costumes were the invention of ESosa, lighting by Natasha Katz, sound plan by Peter Hylenski, and projection outline by Daniel Brodie. The current cast of Motown is as follows: Brandon Victor Dixon, Krystal Joy Brown (Diana Ross), Raymond Luke Jr. also Prince George Maynard as the youthful Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Berry Gordy, Bryan Terrell Clark (Marvin Gaye) and Charl Brown (Smokey Robinson).
In 1983 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium recording stars are assembled to commend the 25th commemoration of Motown Records. In a flashback, in Detroit, Michigan the youthful Berry Gordy watches the neighbors moving. In 1957, the grown-up Berry structures his own record mark, and starts to make long lasting companions with recording craftsmen/vocalists, for example, Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson. Berry finds the Supremes and Diana Ross, among numerous others.
The Pantages Theater Motown Broadway show delivers more than fifty musical numbers spanning the best of the 60's, 70's, adn 80's in Motown.
