Thalia began her musical career as a vocalist in the Mexican child group Din Din by 1981. She performed in the music festival Juguemos a Cantar as a member of the group and later, as a soloist. She is considered a mezzo-soprano, as a vocalist. She was cast in the teenage version of the stage production Grease, being cast in the lead role of Sandy, by 1984. She replaced one of the original female vocalists of Timbiriche, Sasha Sokol by 1986. That same year, she was cast in her first soap opera, Pobre Señorita Limantour. She was also a main cast in the Mexican telenovela Quinceañera, after which she went to Los Angeles, California to prepare for a solo career. After a successful run on TV and the stage, she decided to move to Los Angeles in the ‘80s, where she met her long-time collaborator and producer, Alfredo Díaz Ordaz. “He was a ‘60s kind of guy,” Thalia said. “We made a very strong connection because I loved the Doors, Aerosmith, and Journey. I was always kind of a rocker.” Díaz Ordaz produced Thalia’s self-titled debut in 1989, which was followed by 1991's Mundo de Cristal and 1992's Love. In the ‘90s, Thalia also had great success as an actress in highly rated soaps such as María Mercedes, Marimar and María La Del Barrio, establishing herself as an international star.

She starred in the independent film, Mambo Café, by 2000, a modest Hollywood production in which she played a young Puerto Rican girl, alongside Danny Aiello, Paul Rodriguez, and Rosanna de Soto.

By December 2, 2000, this talented girl married the former president of Sony Music, Tommy Mottola, at St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York in a three-million dollar ceremony and reception and they presently reside in New York City.

Thalia has also worked as a record producer, composer, TV and radio host, fashion designer, magazine editor, and model. She has been a guest on television programs like Entertainment Tonight, El Show de Cristina, Good Morning America, Hard Copy, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, and 20/20.

By 2007, she joined the ABC Network in order to start the radio program The Conexión Thalia Radio Show, where she talks about music, fashion, news and political issues. Furthermore, Thalia is a one of the Mexico's most famous telenovela actresses and has sold more than 12 million albums worldwide. She is a successful Latin Grammy-awarded artist. According to a 2007 survey executed by Consulta Mitofsky, she is the third most popular woman in Mexico.
