Some Girls front woman Juliana Hatfield and drummer Freda Love had known each other way back in the 1980’s. Both of these Some Girls’ members had belonged to another indie rock band called the Blake Babies. Eventually, Some Girls’ progenitor broke up. Hatfield has been quoted to say "Our timing was great," Hatfield jokes. "We broke up just before the alternative explosion."

After Blake Babies broke up, Some Girls’ Juliana Hatfield pursued a solo career which worked out quite well for her. Meanwhile, Some Girls’ Freda Love and fellow Blake Babies’ member John Strohm formed another band called Antenna. These individual ventures went on until Love and Hatfield decided to work on collaboration. The two joined up with Heidi Gluck and this resulted to the formation of Some Girls in 2001.

The name “Some Girls” was inspired by The Rolling Stones’ 1978 song released under its eponymous album. "I love how that album feels rhythmically," says Love. "And I love having some homage to it, but it's not super-heavily deliberate."

Some Girls debut release was called “Feel It”. Some Girls’ “Feel It” was released on the 9th of September, 2003. Some Girls’ “Feel It” was released under Koch Records. Some Girls’ “Feel It” generally received good reviews. Some Girls’ “Feel It” was rated 83/100 by E! online, 80/100 by All Music Guide, 80/100 by Splendid, and 75/100 by Spin. Some Girls’ “Feel It” is an eleven-track release .
