The Oakland Raiders have been an NFL tradition since 1970. In that time the Raiders have won three Super Bowl Championships, four Conference Championships, and fifteen Division Championships. The Raiders have an unusual history in that the team’s owner, Al Davis, has been with the team, both as a coach or an owner, since 1963; just three years after the Raiders were founded and seven years before the Oakland Raiders left the AFL for the NFL.
Though the Raiders have won three championships in the teams history, they have been to the Super Bowl four times; the last being 2002, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the last half-decade, the Raiders have had a different coach every year from 2003 onward. In 2003 Bill Callahan, who is largely credited with leading the Raiders to their 2002 Super Bowl game, was fired from the team and replaced the following year with former Washington Redskins coach Norv Turner, who finished the Oakland Raiders season 5-11 and quit when the season ended. For the 2006 season Art Shell, who was fired by Al Davis in 1995, was brought back n. Then in his second season he was fired and replaced by Lane Kiffin, the youngest Head Coach in the Raiders history. Then, the following year he was fired and Tom Cable replaced Kiffin for the beginning of the 2009 season.
The Oakland Raiders 2008 season finish matched their best season since the Raiders lost the Super Bowl in 2002, and now as 2009 rolls out in full swing, another new coach on board, the Raiders, whose avid fans are nicknamed the Raider Nation, have high hopes for the Super Bowl this year. Don’t miss your chance to catch the next Oakland Raiders game, whether a home game at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, or an away game elsewhere, order your NFL Oakland Raiders Tickets online or over the phone today.
