Miami Dolphins Schedule

Miami Dolphins

Based in Miami , Florida , the Miami Dolphins are a professional American football team.

The Miami Dolphins play home games at Dolphin Stadium, in the suburb of Miami Gardens , which is about 15 miles from Downtown Miami. Also, the Dolphins are the oldest major league professional sports franchise in the state of Florida .

The Miami Dolphins became very successful in the early 1970s, by becoming the first team to go to the Super Bowl for three successive seasons. In 1972, the Dolphins made history when they completed the NFL's first perfect season which led to a Super Bowl win. They won all 14 regular season games, two playoff games and Super Bowl VII. To this day, they are still the only team in history to have achieved this massive feat. To follow that feat, the Dolphins also won Super Bowl VIII, becoming the first NFL team to appear in three consecutive Super Bowls, and the second team to win back-to-back Super Bowls. Miami also appeared in Super Bowl XVII and Super Bowl XIX, however they lost both games.

For most of their history, the Dolphins were coached by Don Shula, who is the most successful head coach in professional football history. Only two of his 26 seasons with the club were posted as losing records. Also, during the 1970's, six future Hall of Fame members played for Miami including running back Larry Csonka and quarterback Bob Griese. And during the 1980s and 1990s legendary quarterback Dan Marino became the most prolific passer in NFL history by breaking numerous league passing records. Marino led the Dolphins to numerous playoff appearances and Super Bowl XIX. Some of his passing records have only recently been surpassed by Brett Favre, with all time touchdown passes and all time yardage, and Tom Brady, with the most touch down passes in a single season.

More recently, however, the Dolphins have been struggling. In the 2007 they finished last in the AFC East division with a record of 1-15. However, having the worst record in the NFL awarded the Dolphins the number one overall pick in the upcoming draft for the 2008 season. There were also big changes off the field when, late in the 2007 season, former two time Super Bowl winning coach Bill Parcells was named head of the Dolphins football operations. Shortly after the season, Parcells fired GM Randy Mueller and on January 3, 2008, head coach Cam Cameron was fired along with the majority of his staff. This might mean a new beginning for the fledging Dolphins.

The 2008 season will hopefully be very different for the Dolphins. The Dolphins have added quarterback Chad Pennington to their roster who is a solid player. They lost linebackers Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas and got Channing Crowder. The team can only go up from their losing record from last year but it may take more than one season for the new players to find their rhythm within the team.
