More about Mamma Mia

Based on the songs of ABBA, Mamma Mia! is composed by Benny Andersson and Bjrn Ulvaeus and the plot is adapted from the 1968 film 'Buona Sera'. Bjrn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson wrote the original music for ABBA, and they both have been involved in the development of Mamma Mia! ABBA was a Swedish pop/dance group in the seventies and was one of the most internationally popular groups of all-time and topped the charts in Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and North America.

Mamma Mia! is a story that takes place on a mythical Greek island, set in present day. It centers on a young girl named Sophie who has dreams of a beautiful white wedding and having her father giving her away at the altar. The only problem is that Sophie doesn't know who her dad is, and she is only one day away from her wedding. As the show begins, Sophie is explaining to her friends that her mom, Donna, fell for three men in a short amount of time, meaning that her father could do any one of the three. Sophie secretly invites all three men to the wedding thinking that she would be able to figure out who her father is once she sees him. Once they all arrive she can't figure out who her father is, and Donna is shocked. The three men are Sam Carmichael, who is an American architect, Harry Bright, a British banker, and Bill Austin, who is an Australian writer. The wedding is filled with fantastic ABBA music as Sophie tries to learn who her real father is as she gets married.

The musical includes hits as "Super Trouper", "Mamma Mia", "Dancing Queen", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Thank You for the Music", "Money, Money, Money", "The Winner Takes It All", "Voulez Vous", "I Have A Dream" and "SOS". As of 2007, over 30 million people have seen Mamma Mia! It has been performed in eleven languages and has spawned productions around the world. And premiering July 2008 is the film adaptation of 'Mamma Mia' starring Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried and Julie Walters.
