Basia Club Nokia Theatre Facts and Information:
Basia was born September 30, 1954 in Jaworzno , Poland . At the age of fifteen she made her debut with her local rock band, performing at the Polish Festival of Beat Avangarde. No long after Basia joined an all-girls group called Alibabki, which she san with from 1972-1974. Then in 1977 she joined a band called Perfect and remained on board until 1979. It wasn't until 1981 when Basia joined forces with Danny White, brother of jazz guitarist Peter White that they started their group Matt Bianco and debuted their album Whose Side Are You On? in 1984. The album sold 1.5 million copies across Europe and successfully rendered two top 30 hits on UK singles charts.
Basia became a solo artist of her own accord in 1985 after leaving Matt Bianco. Her first album Time and Tide sold nearly two million copies and also brought her the U.S. top 30 as well as the Billboard Hot 100 status. Basia's second album London Warsaw New York also achieved nearly two million albums sold and also made another Top 30 hit and Billboard Hot 100. Her second album also became the top Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year, beating the Grammy-Award winning album by Quincy Jones, Back on the Block. Basia's third studio album, The Sweetest Illusion sold over a half million copies in the U.S. but world wide sold over a million. That was in 1994. In 1998 Basia left the industry for an undetermined amount of time following the loss of her mother and several other people close to her.
Finally in 2009 Basia released her fourth studio album, It's That Girl Again. It placed in top 10 of U.S. Jazz Albums chart and went Platinum in Poland . Her subsequent tour ran from Sep. 28 th to October 19 th , beginning in Europe and ending in Japan . She finished the second leg of her world-wide tour in 2010 in London .
