The Heat went 2-2 the past week, but they lost a game they needed badly to rise up in the standings. The Heat beat the Pacers and the Knicks, but they lost to the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics. Against the Celtics, the Heat had a chance to climb up in the standings and overcome Boston as the No.3 spot in the East. However, Miami was overwhelmed by the suffocating defense of Boston, as the team shot just 1 of 13 from the 3-pt line. The team got the news that Chris Bosh will likely miss the remainder of the season, as the team is taking precautionary measurements. In the meantime, the Heat beefed up their backcourt help with the addition of Joe Johnson, who was previously waived by the Brooklyn Nets. Johnson gives the Heat another option at the wing, and a proven scorer who is also clutch in playoff situations.

The Heat again had a so-so weak, winning two games but also losing two games. The Heat beat the Indiana Pacers in overtime, in a game in which Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade provided the final punch. Miami also beat the struggling Phoenix Suns with Wade scoring 27 points to lead the charge. On the flip side, the Heat fall to the New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz, two teams that are lower in the standings than the Heat. In the two loses, Miami barely cracked 90 points, scoring only 83 against the Jazz and 90 against the Knicks. Offense has been an issue for the Heat lately, as the team barely shots 40% from the field and less than 30% from behind the 3-pt line. And when the Heat fail to defend as they did against the Jazz (Utah shot 55% overall and 45% from behind the arc), they are in trouble. The bad news continue, as the Heat will continue to play on the road for much of January, where they have been awful. The current stretch for the Heat includes 12 of their last 14 played on the road. In January, the Heat will play team record 12 games away from their home arena.

Every time the Miami Heat are in danger, veterans Bosh and Wade come to the rescue. Dwayne Wade has been a pleasant surprise this year, as the shooting guard is playing like his best years in Miami Heat uniform before the Lebron James trade. Wade and Bosh saved the Heat on Christmas day against the Pelicans, forcing overtime and completely taking over in the extra five minutes to lead the Heat to a 93-88 victory. Bosh finished the game with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Wade had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, but was instrumental in crunch time. Bosh led the Heat to victory on the second day of a back-to-back game, as the Heat played in Orlando following Christmas day. With Bosh scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, the Heat won 108-101.

After they climbed to the top of the East last week, Miami fall down to third spot. The Heat won three of the four games they played, only losing to the Toronto Raptors. During last week, Miami beat the Atlanta Hawks, the Brooklyn Nets and the Portland Trail Blazers. Bosh and Wade took turns in leading the Heat in scoring, with Bosh scoring 24 against the Hawks and 29 against the Blazers. Wade led the way against the Nets and Toronto with 28 and 21 points respectively. Goran Dragic got his first ejection in his career against the Blazers. But the Heat rallied back in the second halftime to beat the Blazers 116-109. Whiteside got his 100th block of the season early in the first quarter against the Blazers. No other player in the league has had more than 70 blocks so far this season. Whiteside finished the night with 5 blocks.
