Paris as a recording artist has a type of music that includes pop, hip-hop, dance, R&B and reggaeton. In addition, she has appeared in several minor roles, most notably in the horror film House of Wax. And some of her more recognizable screen work has been alongside friend Nicole Richie in The Simple Life. By 2006, she released her debut self-titled album Paris. She has since garnered infamy as a result of several legal incidents, the repercussions of which have caused Hilton to serve time in a correctional institution in 2007.

By 2004, Paris Hilton founded Heiress Records that is a sub-label of Warner Bros. Records. Paris released her self-titled debut album, Paris, under the Heiress Records label on August 22, 2006. Though the album reached number six on the Billboard 200 for a week, its total sales volume has been low. Producers for Paris included Greg Wells, Kara DioGuardi, Jane Wiedlin as well as Scott Storch. Paris worked together with Fat Joe and Jadakiss on the song Fighting Over Me. The first single from Paris, Stars Are Blind, produced by Fernando Garibay, was released for download on June 20, 2006 and peaked at number eighteen on the Billboard Hot 100; Turn It Up and Nothing in This World followed as worldwide singles. While All Music Guide commented that the album was ‘more fun than anything released by Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson, and a lot fresher, too,’ critical response as a whole was mixed.

Paris Hilton confirmed that she was already working on a new album, but there's no title yet, on the 16th of July 16, 2007. The release is planned for Fall of 2007. She was also attending singing lessons to increase her voice for the new record and some tracks have already been finished. Recently music producer Scott Storch confirmed his work on Hilton's upcoming album. Sash! has also been confirmed to be producing Hilton's first single.

Her album, Paris, was released on August 19 in Australia, August 21 in the United Kingdom and in the United States on August 22, 2006. The whole album was posted to the internet on the 13th of August 2006 via AOL Music; nine days before the official release date. It was leaked to the Internet about a week before it was released. Furthermore, 2.5 million copies of Paris have been sold worldwide, including 600,000 in the United States.

It was a great accomplishment for Paris Hilton because being a recording artist is one of her dreams and it did came true. She has proven her worth as a big contributor to the music industry, not just in her country but in the whole world as well.
