The aforementioned season gave the Colorado Buffaloes an 11-1 record overall and a second position in the Big Eight Conference.
For the 1996 season, as the Colorado Buffaloes joined the Big 12 Conference, the team posted an overall record of 10-2 and was placed second in ranking. Moreover, on the 30th of December of the same year, the Colorado Buffaloes defeated the Washington Huskies by 33-21. However in 2001, with a record overall of 10-3 and a conference record of 7-1, the Colorado Buffaloes gained their first Big 12 Conference title with a 39-37 win against the Texas at Irving, basically coming in a road game environment.
