Torii Hunter Los Angeles Angels Right Feilder
Torii Hunter is one of the great players in the world of baseball. He is currently the right fielder for Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Born on July 18, 1975, Torii Hunter from Pine Bluff Arkansas was an active baseball player during his student days. In fact, he was selected as the Twins’ first-round pick in 1993 out of high school. He was a successful player and was named Twins’ Minor League Player of the Week and Player of the Month.
Torii Hunter is a cousin of a former MLB outfielder Choo Freeman. Hunter lives during the off-season in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex suburb of Prosper, Texas. Hunter led the Twins in at bats, home runs and outfield assists with 14 – tied for second best in the league, in 2001. Moreover, he was also second in RBI and total bases, leading the team to their first winning season since 1992; he led all major league center fielders in range factor 3.29, and was also named Best Defensive Outfielder in the American League by Baseball America. As his success continued, a new beginning was set for Hunter as he turned down a three-year, $45,000,000 deal in August of 2007 from the Twins and signed a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim worth $90,000,000; replacing Gary Matthews Jr. as the everyday center fielder.
Hunter was also noted as rank 44th on the list of Sporting News’ 50 greatest current players in baseball. On June 13, 2009, Hunter hit three home runs in one game against the San Diego Padres and it was the first time in his career he had achieved the feat with Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Hunter remains successful with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and even won his ninth consecutive Gold Glove Award for the outfield as announced on November 10, 2009.In addition to that, it was announced two days later that he won a silver slugger award; he batted .299 with 22 homers and 90 RBI’s. Hunter collected his 1000th RBI off of Joakim Soria that was also a go-ahead two run home run to give the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim a 9-8 advantage. It was a game which the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim finally won 10-8 and Hunter was the 268th player to collect 1,000 RBI.
