At the beginning of the year, The Weeknd released a collaboration with French producer Gesaffelstein, who had previously worked together on My Dear Melancholy. “Lost in the Fire” was a brilliant and successful track, but one of his only releases in the first ten months of the year.
Tesfaye’s only other release in 2019 prior to November was “Power is Power”, a massive collaboration with SZA and Travis Scott. The track was released in April as part of a series of music celebrating the final season of Game of Thrones.
After six months of silence, fans began to wonder when, if ever, we would get a new song from The Weeknd. And then he blessed us all with the best Thanksgiving present we could possibly ask for.
“Blinding Lights” and “Heartless” were released within days of each other, at the end of November. “Blinding Lights” is an upbeat song featuring a lot of the bright, synthy production that was prominent in his last album. “Heartless” is the complete opposite, a dark, brooding song that invokes the sounds of Beauty Behind the Madnesswith the lyrics of his Thursday and House of Balloons mixtape era.
Will The Weeknd Tour in 2020?
While nothing has been officially announced, it’s all but certain that The Weeknd’s fourth studio album will drop in the early months of 2020. With two songs already released and plenty of rumors swirling around his next track (some people think it’s about ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez), a full record is inevitable.

After remaining an elusive figure throughout his mixtape days, The Weeknd embarked on his first tour 2012, opening it with a performance at Coachella. In 2013 he did a small tour in support of his upcoming debut studio album Kiss Land.
In 2015, The Weeknd released his major breakthrough album Beauty Behind The Madness and with that started the arc of many major artists, a major arena tour. After spending the summer headlining major festivals like Lollapalooza, Bumbershoot, Summer Set, and HARD Summer, he toured the country. He brought Travis Scott and Halsey on tour with him, jump-starting their then young careers.
After releasing Starboy in 2016, The Weeknd embarked on his biggest tour yet. A nearly year-long tour in 2017 that took him all around the world. Starboy:Legend of the Fall Tour began in Stockholm, Sweden on February 17, 2017, and took him across Europe and South America before landing in North America in April. The tour returned to Europe for June and July before coming back to North America for September and October, and finally concluding with a stint in Oceania that ended in Perth, Australia on December 14, 2017.
Based on his touring history, we can safely say that The The Weeknd will tour in 2020. With a new studio album all but guaranteed at the beginning of the year, we can expect The Weeknd to tour in support of that album throughout the year.

Now that we can safely assume that The Weeknd will be playing shows and festivals across the country (and probably the world) in 2020, it’s time to figure out how to see him live.

If packed arenas aren’t your thing, consider going to a music festival! While he hasn’t been announced for any yet, he’s played nearly every major festival in the United States over the last four years, as well as quite a few in Europe. He’s heavily rumored to be headlining Coachella, so keep that announcement in your back pocket.
