The Forum in Inglewood, also known as The Forum, presented by Chase, The Great Western Forum, the Fabulous Forum and the L.A. Forum, is a venue in Inglewood, CA. It was built in 1966 and is one of the older venues when compared to the Staples Center, Nokia Theatre, and other venues in L.A. When your flying into LAX, you can easily see the Forum on the landscape. When it was The Great Western Forum, The Forum was considered to be as vital to the entertainment world as Madison Square Garden. The Forum was designed by Charles Luckman Associates, the famed businessman, and architect who designed Madison Square Garden, the Prudential Tower in Boston, the McDonald Investment Center in Cleveland, and many the other main venues in the U.S. that were built in the late 50’s to the early 70’s.
The Moda Center is the Portland, Oregon mainstay sports venue. The Moda Center used to be called The Rose Garden, from 1995 until 2013. The Moda Center is owned by a company called Vulcan and is managed by Anshutz Entertainment and AEG Live, two of the biggest management companies in the world. The Moda Center sits at 1 Center Court, in the heart of Portland, Oregon. The original Rose Garden was built at a breathtaking cost of $262 million at the time of construction. In 2015 dollars, that translates to $406 million. The architect endeavored to construct such a monumental venue was Ellerbe Becket. Ellerbe Becket is a Minneapolis based architecture firm that was founded in 1909. Today it is one of the biggest firms in the world with 475 employees in seven locations throughout three countries. They have designed buildings in every single state in the U.S. as well as twenty countries. The top of the line venue has seating capacities and courts/stages for basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, center stage theater and end stage theater. For basketball the court now accommodates 19,441 fans. For Ice hockey it accommodates 18,280. For the center stage concerts the Moda Center seats 20,500 and for the end stage the Moda Center holds 15,000. It also offers a “theater of the clouds”, seating 6,500. The Moda Center Theater of the Clouds is constructed to create an acoustic cloud using curtains and is designed for small and intimate performances and speakers. By the time the original Rose Garden opened, it had taken three years.
The Moda Center Seating chart has over 14,000 permanent seats. They are arranged in two bowls. Another 1,540 permanent seats are located in the skyboxes. 4,200 portable seats are available depending upon the event and current seating chart. For basketball the arena can actually fit almost 21,000 for standing room. The Moda Center also hosts a flurry of other special events, including monster trucks, circuses, and concerts. The Moda Center offers seventy skyboxes. Each skybox has twenty-two seats and V.I.P. amenities such as a wet bar, private bathroom, several television monitors, catering, and a sound system. Patrons can rent out a skybox year round, on a per-event contract, and more. In 2014, those who rented the skybox year round were granted access to all events that year. The skybox annual contract is certainly the most cost-effective and luxurious approach for enjoying Portland events. The Moda Center also offers 44-person Super Suites, an 88-person mega suite and party suites.
The Moda Center has concourses on the 100 and 300 level and all are open to the general public patrons during events. There is also a concourse on the 200 level that has a sports bar, barbecue grill, a banguet facility, and smoking terraces that are outdoors. Another suite level fourth concourse is for the skyboxes. The Moda Center has over thirty bathrooms and a ratio of women’s to men’s bathrooms that are 3 to 1, so the women freshening up etc. don’t have a long wait. The high-def scoreboard is fifteen feet wide by twenty-two feet long. There are over 650 T.V. screens spread throughout the Moda Center. The Moda Center sound offers the acoustical cloud featuring 160 rotating acoustic panels that suspend from the ceiling. They create the roar that made the Old Memorial Coliseum one of the loudest in the NBA. The panels are adjustable depending upon the event.
