Top 10 Centers NBA

Top 10 NBA Centers for the 2014-15 season

If you have ever spent any time at all watching NBA basketball, you know how much a big man in the centre gain is an impact on any game at any time. There massive dunks off alley-oops to strong, aggressive blocked shots have been a part of basketball for many years. Fans would go to the courts to see legends like Shaq and Hakeem Olajuwon only to receive just what they were looking for when they purchased a ticket. Today is no different. There are many great centers that play in the NBA and we will take a glance at some of the top centers to watch in the upcoming 2014-15 season. Counting down from the bottom to the top here are the centers to watch.

10. Brook Lopez:
Only playing 17 games last season due to injury Brook looks to put together a strong push in this upcoming NBA season. The injury issue is something to keep an eye with this center. In the past three seasons, he missed 134 games due to injury. At an average of almost 21 ppg. He could be a strong contributor to the Brooklyn Nets.

9. Andre Drummond:
One of the weak points of Drummond is his terrible free throw shooting. Although he did put up some impressive stats in the 2013-14 season for the Pistons, he seems to be a little overrated. Look for him to put this fact behind him and prove that he will be an upcoming force in the 2014-15 season.

8. Andrew Bogut:
Last season Bogut put up the second highest defensive rating at 96.3 in the NBA. He also finished the season in the top 5 for rebounding and blocking percentage. Look for Bogut top help Golden State to make a strong run this season.

7. Al Horford:
The 2013-14 season was a short one for Horford. Due to an injury with a pectoral muscle, he only managed to play in 29 games last year. He still managed to put up an 18.6 ppg. If he stays healthy his ability to stretch the floor will help the Pacers this year. He would probably be ranked higher if he weren’t so injury prone.

6. DeAndre Jordan:
With a 13.6 RPG. Average DeAndre led the league in rebounds in the 20113-14 season. He also posted career highs last year in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. He will be one of the league’s most dominant shot blockers in 2014-15. Look for his strong defensive effort to continue this season for the Clippers.

5. Demarcus Cousins:
Cousins put up some impressive numbers in the last NBA season that led him to have the best season of his career. Even though he needs to work on his attitude towards his teammates you can still look for Demarcus to bring the 22 ppg average back this year to help Sacremento.

4. Marc Gasol:
After missing 23 games last year due to injury, you can look for a healthy Marc to return to the Memphis Grizzlies. In known as one of the leagues stiffest defenders. His 14.6 ppg isn’t bad to go along with his good defence. He will be a huge defensive presence this year especially if he stays healthy.

3. Al Jefferson:
As one of the biggest post scorers in the game, Al will be a huge contributor if Charlotte is going to be competitive in the 2014-15 season. He needs to improve on defence, but you can bet that will be no problem for this talented Charlotte Hornet. At almost 22 ppg look for him to contribute well with his post presence.

2. Joakim Noah:
This Chicago Bull has matured in a great way as an NBA player. After winning, NBA Defensive Player of the Year will have to keep up the pace with the new cast he will have around him in the upcoming NBA season.

1.Dwight Howard:
Look for this Houston Rocket center to be one of the strongest players on the court this year. If he has a strong year, he could match the great year he had with the Orlando Magic where he was a legitimate MVP candidate. With a strong 18 ppg average, he may show why he is the number one spot this year.

Kobe Bryant Lakers Staples Center

What’s the plan after Kobe retires?

Kobe Bryant is one of the league’s greatest players of all-time. Kobe Bryant LakersHe is entering his 19th NBA season this fall and has been to the All-Star Game 16 times in his illustrious career. Tack on five NBA Championships, two NBA Finals MVPs and one regular season MVP and Bryant is a surefire Hall-of-Famer. The past two years have been rough for the 36-year-old though. He has suffered two serious leg injuries including a torn Achilles and a fractured knee. To make matters worse, the Lakers are coming off a season in which they won only 27 games, and things don’t look much better this year unless vintage Bryant comes back. With a poor supporting cast and an ageing star coming back from serious injuries, the Lakers don’t appear to be building for the future or winning in the present. Bryant is expected to retire in two years, and the summer of 2016 has several NBA games starts becoming available in free agency. The Lakers are hoping some of those stars can get past the losing ways of recent and head to the attractive destination of Los Angeles.

Was Kobes contract worth it

KOBE

Last season, Bryant was coming back from a torn Achilles and all signs pointed to him being physically beautiful. The Lakers were coming off a summer in which Dwight Howard bolted town for the Houston Rockets, but if Bryant was healthy, they were expected to be in the playoff hunt. He struggled initially coming back from injury just because he hadn’t played in game action for a while. In his 10th game of the year, though, he went down with a fractured knee and the Lakers season went up in flames. Add in injuries to Pau Gasol, and Steve Nash and Los Angeles were trotting a team of street free agents on the court. The results weren’t good. This offseason, they re-signed Jordan Hill to a two-year deal and drafted University of Kentucky big man Julius Randle with the seventh overall pick. The cupboard is still quite bare though and asking your ageing superstar to turn back the clock and win games on his own after the devastating injuries he’s suffered unrealistic.

Los Angeles has always gotten by on their team history, spotlight, and beautiful weather in Southern California. Free agents loved that about the Lakers. That doesn’t appear to be the case anymore. Howard and Pau Gasol have left town during the last two offseasons. Unless Randle becomes a star in the next two years, it’s hard to expect any prominent free agents to come to town because the Lakers aren’t an attractive winning destination.

Kevin Durant, Joakim Noah, Al Horford, Nicolas Batum, Brook Lopez and Mike Conley are among the free agents that will hit the market in the offseason of 2016. Fellow Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James and Kevin Love could even hit the market if they opt out of their contracts. The summer of 2016 is gearing up to be one of the best in recent years, and the Lakers will have plenty of cap room. However, without a plan for the future in place and the ability to win immediately, they may have to settle for the remaining free agents.

No matter what the next two seasons are going to be interesting ones for the Los Angeles Lakers, Lakers Fans and Kobe Bryant himself! Chris M.

Blake Griffin and Joakim Noah are two dark horses for MVP

Clippers Blake Griffin Bulls Joakim Noah

BLAKE & JOAKIM

There is no denying that the MVP title is a two-man one this year. LeBron James and Kevin Durant will be apparently fighting chest to chest till the end of the season for the award and at the moment, things look really tight. However, it’s worth taking a look at some of the dark horses in the race for MVP. Although several players have been involved into the discussion for the MVP award this season, at the moment, Blake Griffin and Joakim Noah are the two best underdogs.

Noah is the main reason the Chicago Bulls have managed not only to save the 2013-2014 season but to also emerge up to the third spot in the Eastern Conference. The Frenchman center is doing it all for his team at the moment, playing defense, scoring, dishing assists and rebounding. Although Noah has literally no chances to make it to the top of list of MVP candidates, as LeBron and KD are playing in a whole different level, he is one of the most over performing players this season.

LA Clippers Blake Griffin

BLAKE

If there is one player who deserves to be considered as a third strong candidate for the MVP award this season, that is Blake Griffin. The highflying forward has not only improved his game in almost any aspect but he has also emerged as the true leader of the Los Angeles Clippers, taking the team on his shoulders during the time Chris Paul was out with an injury.

Griffin is averaging 24 points per contest, almost three more than his career-average and he is also securing 9.6 rebounds and dishing out 3.6 assists, while shooting 53.2 percent from the floor. He just recently got hurt, during the Clips’ last game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he is projected to return to action soon and be ready for the Clips’ playoff push. Despite Griffin’s improvement, he will still not be able to reach the duo of LeBron and Durant.

LeBron is recording a career-best 57.0 percent shooting from the field and he is also putting up 26.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game, which are too much for Griffin to get close. Durant is also recording similarly impressive numbers, maybe even more impressive. He is leading the NBA in scoring with 32.2 points per game and he is also putting up 7.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists. His shooting is also great but slightly lower than LeBron’s rates, 51.2 percent from the floor and 41.2 percent from deep.
The MVP race will be coming to its end soon and we will see either Durant or LeBron earning the crown. However, we also have to recognize the efforts of players like Griffin and Noah. Chris M
