Top 10 Centers NBA

Top 10 NBA Centers for the 2014-15 season

If you have ever spent any time at all watching NBA basketball, you know how much a big man in the centre gain is an impact on any game at any time. There massive dunks off alley-oops to strong, aggressive blocked shots have been a part of basketball for many years. Fans would go to the courts to see legends like Shaq and Hakeem Olajuwon only to receive just what they were looking for when they purchased a ticket. Today is no different. There are many great centers that play in the NBA and we will take a glance at some of the top centers to watch in the upcoming 2014-15 season. Counting down from the bottom to the top here are the centers to watch.

10. Brook Lopez:
Only playing 17 games last season due to injury Brook looks to put together a strong push in this upcoming NBA season. The injury issue is something to keep an eye with this center. In the past three seasons, he missed 134 games due to injury. At an average of almost 21 ppg. He could be a strong contributor to the Brooklyn Nets.

9. Andre Drummond:
One of the weak points of Drummond is his terrible free throw shooting. Although he did put up some impressive stats in the 2013-14 season for the Pistons, he seems to be a little overrated. Look for him to put this fact behind him and prove that he will be an upcoming force in the 2014-15 season.

8. Andrew Bogut:
Last season Bogut put up the second highest defensive rating at 96.3 in the NBA. He also finished the season in the top 5 for rebounding and blocking percentage. Look for Bogut top help Golden State to make a strong run this season.

7. Al Horford:
The 2013-14 season was a short one for Horford. Due to an injury with a pectoral muscle, he only managed to play in 29 games last year. He still managed to put up an 18.6 ppg. If he stays healthy his ability to stretch the floor will help the Pacers this year. He would probably be ranked higher if he weren’t so injury prone.

6. DeAndre Jordan:
With a 13.6 RPG. Average DeAndre led the league in rebounds in the 20113-14 season. He also posted career highs last year in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. He will be one of the league’s most dominant shot blockers in 2014-15. Look for his strong defensive effort to continue this season for the Clippers.

5. Demarcus Cousins:
Cousins put up some impressive numbers in the last NBA season that led him to have the best season of his career. Even though he needs to work on his attitude towards his teammates you can still look for Demarcus to bring the 22 ppg average back this year to help Sacremento.

4. Marc Gasol:
After missing 23 games last year due to injury, you can look for a healthy Marc to return to the Memphis Grizzlies. In known as one of the leagues stiffest defenders. His 14.6 ppg isn’t bad to go along with his good defence. He will be a huge defensive presence this year especially if he stays healthy.

3. Al Jefferson:
As one of the biggest post scorers in the game, Al will be a huge contributor if Charlotte is going to be competitive in the 2014-15 season. He needs to improve on defence, but you can bet that will be no problem for this talented Charlotte Hornet. At almost 22 ppg look for him to contribute well with his post presence.

2. Joakim Noah:
This Chicago Bull has matured in a great way as an NBA player. After winning, NBA Defensive Player of the Year will have to keep up the pace with the new cast he will have around him in the upcoming NBA season.

1.Dwight Howard:
Look for this Houston Rocket center to be one of the strongest players on the court this year. If he has a strong year, he could match the great year he had with the Orlando Magic where he was a legitimate MVP candidate. With a strong 18 ppg average, he may show why he is the number one spot this year.

Can Blake Play Big For The Clippers In The Playoffs?

Blake Griffin LA Clippers

BLAKE GRIFFIN

Blake Griffin has played really big for the Los Angeles Clippers all season long. He is putting up incredible, MVP-like numbers. He also led Lob City to an impressive course when Chris Paul was sidelined with an injury and he has managed to improve his game in several different sectors. However, there is one big question around BG as we head to the playoffs. Will he be able to play big for the Clips during the postseason?

After two consecutive unsuccessful playoff courses the Clipper Nation expects something better this year. This should be the year the Clippers make the difference, the year they take the next step and Blake Griffin has to be the one showing the way. For sure, his 24.0 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game up to now in the season are impressive. And yes he is fairly considered as the strongest runner-up for the MVP award, right behind LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Nonetheless, his career playoff performance hasn’t been as impressive.
BG is averaging just 17.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and also 2.5 assists during the postseason, numbers not even close to his regular season ones. In fact, Griffin seemed like he suffered from lack of focus and emotion control during the postseason.

Some can blame injury issues for Griffin’s struggles last year, when the Clippers exited the playoffs in the first round. However, the dominance of the Grizzlies’ frontline was obvious. Even if Griffin was at his 100 percent, he most probably wouldn’t have been in a position to match with Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.

Thankfully, this year, Lob City won’t play against the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round. However, Griffin won’t have an easy job unfolding his offense against Andrew Bogut and possibly David Lee, if the Dubs’ star manages to return from his injury during the postseason.

Blake Griffin Clippers

BLAKE GRIFFIN

It’s true that Griffin has shown much improvement in areas that he was bleeding last year. Free throw shooting was one of them. A 64.0 percent career shooter from the charity stripe, Griffin has improved his free-throw shooting to a 71.0 percent rate this season. This seven percent margin can definitely play a role during the playoffs, when Lob City will need Griffin to attack the basket, get to the line and score easy points.

Defense still remains the Achilles’ heel for the highflying superstar. For a player with his size, his body strength and athletic abilities, it’s notable that Griffin won’t make anyone’s All-NBA-First Team Defense this season. Thankfully, LA still has DeAndre Jordan onboard, who usually is the one making sure the paint is barricaded.

Mental balance is another crucial factor for Griffin’s performance and as a result Lob City’s playoff course. Sometimes BG can’t control his emotions and his reactions result in him picking up technical fouls. Fair or unfair, the Clippers can’t afford to lose their leading scorer in any game of the postseason. This will most probably an area Doc Rivers will have to work his magic. If there is one Head Coach in the NBA who can get into the head of his players and make them think clearer and in a more mature manner, that’s Doc Rivers.

Blake Griffin will be a huge factor in the Clippers’ course this season. Hopefully, he will manage to avoid lethargic performances similar to the previous season.

The LA Clippers will start the post season with home court advantage with just two games left in the season this week one against the Trail Blazers and the other against the Nuggets there is a good chance Blake will get a bit of needed rest. A Clippers Vs Warriors match up is looking like it will be the first test for the Clippers in the 2014 playoffs. Can The Warriors Go Past Round Two?

Golden State Warriors

WARRIORS

The Golden State Warriors have managed to keep their competitiveness level at high levels almost throughout the season. While the team faced a bunch of injuries and small periods of slump, they have now solidified their playoff spot, and they are, in fact, one of the strongest championship black horses in the Western Conference. The Dubs will most probably meet the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs, and this will be a very tough matchup for them. Can they roll past the Clips and advance to the second round?

The two teams have split the season series to two apiece this year. Although the Warriors are one of the teams with the scariest shooting abilities from the three-point range they are also a team that has experienced ups and downs this season. When Golden State focuses on cutting down on its turnovers and playing tight defence, they can be a tough team to beat. Especially when the sharpshooting duo of Klay Thompson and Steph Curry sink their shots from beyond the arc, the Dubs can be unstoppable.

WARRIORS & CLIPPERS

Nonetheless, the competition level is extreme as of now in the West. The Warriors are an excellent team, but they will face an even better one in the first round. If the LA Clippers are their matchup, the Warriors will stand some good chances to make it to the second round. Of course, if Golden State manages to steal the fifth seed from the Portland Trail Blazers and meet the Houston Rockets in the first round, things could be even better for them. Portland currently stands two games ahead of Golden State and have not been at their best shape as of lately. Although the Warriors lost two out of their three meetings with the Houston Rockets, they seem capable of matching with Houston’s strong points.

It will all come down to the Warriors’ pace and the conditions of critical players most probably, like Andre Iguodala and Andrew Bogut. As long as the Splash Brothers stay hot on the one end of the floor and as long as the Dubs have Iggy and Bogut shutting down the lanes on the defensive end, they can stay optimistic that they can advance to the next round. It will be a surprise to see the Warriors topping the Clips and even the Rockets in the first round. However, this won’t be the first time we saw wonders happening in the NBA.

Oracle Arena

With just four home games left at the Oracle Arena the Warriors have a potential chance to win all four since three are against non playoff teams and only one the Timberwolves should give them some struggles. Golden State sits in the sixth spot of the Western Conference only two points behind the Blazers but 5 1/2 points behind the Rockets who lost yesterday to the Clippers which would give them home-court advantage in the first round, one that the Warriors could use. Although Warriors playoff tickets are on sale now starting at just $125 a ticket the dates and venue of their first-round games have not been announced yet. All Warriors playoff tickets for games that are not played come with a 100% refund. Buying Warriors playoff tickets early locks your price in so if ticket prices raise your still set to go. Chris

Lakers Fall To Warriors In China

Los Angeles Lakers

LA Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors played their last game outside of the USA. In a game that took place in Shanghai, China, the Los Angeles Lakers got smashed by the Warriors with a game ending with a score 115-89. The game went out of reach after the half, when the Warriors, led by Klay Thompson got really aggressive and put the game out of reach. The Lakers and Warriors will meet up again on Nov 22nd at the LA Staples Center!

Thompson showed for yet another time why Golden State is considered as a team the best-shooting backcourt in the league. Although his fellow sharpshooter, Stephen Curry stayed low, going 3 for 12 from the field, Thompson hit the target five times in six attempts from three-point range. He finished with 25 points leading all scorers. David Lee was also aggressive adding 16 points for Golden State with 16, while Kent Bazemore and Draymond Green scored 14 each coming off the bench. The newcomer star forward, Andre Iguodala had just four points but added 14 assists.

Golden State went on a 25-6 run late in the third to seal the victory, while the Los Angeles Lakers seemed to be lacking energy, especially after the halftime break. Unfortunately, Golden State saw their center Andrew Bogut experiencing back spasms early. He exited the game early in the first quarter and did not return. The Australian big man is already in contract negotiations with the team. The Warriors want to include some terms in the new contract that will secure the team from potential health issues Bogut might experience. Bogut appeared in just 32 games last season with Golden State.

The Lakers were happy to see their leader, Kobe Bryant, participating in the team’s warm-up before the game for the first time after he went down with a torn Achilles injury. The Mamba stated a few days before that he could be playing if it was postseason. Nevertheless, he will most probably sit during the Lakers’ season opener. Bryant joined the Lakers’ bench in the last quarter of the game, forcing the crowd in Shanghai to react with a big applause.

Gasol was the leading scorer for Los Angeles. He ended up scoring 16 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. However, all other Lakers players finished with single points. LA found themselves behind by as many as 30 points. They also got outrebounded 46 to 36. The Head Coach of the team, Mike D’Antoni downplayed the loss, stating that it all comes down to the regular season and more specifically the playoffs.

Klay Thompson on the other hand commented that it’s always good to beat the Lakers. Gasol pointed out that, as obvious, there is still much more work left for the Lakers. Especially now that Bryant is not available, the Lakers have to gather themselves up if they want to make a solid beginning in the season.
Yao Ming, a Shanghai native watched the game courtside. The former NBA superstar received a cheer from the crowd.
