There are few events more thrilling than a Monster Jam show. From the rumble of the massive trucks to the excitement of being part of an ecstatic crowd, it’s hard to pinpoint what makes these events so great.
For those who haven’t been to a Monster Jam rally, though, the idea of a bunch of huge trucks roaring around might not seem too appealing.
We’re going to try to help you out on that front, though, giving you some insight into what happens at a Monster Jam show and why it might be a fun idea to check one out.
Let’s get started!
Frequently Asked Questions About Monster Jam Ticket Prices and Information.
How much do Monster Jam tickets cost?
Currently, Monster Jam tickets on the secondary market can start for as low as $17.00, with an average price of $46.00 per ticket.
What Happens at a Monster Jam Rally?
A Monster Jam is more than just a gathering of some people who like modifying their cars in order to smash them together. It’s definitely a few hundred steps up from your traditional demolition derby at the county fair.
We’re not bashing demo derbies (they can be extremely fun), it’s just that a Monster Jam is more of a production, filled with spontaneity, excitement, showmanship, and talent.
Additionally, there is a well-established culture of trucks and their drivers. One-of-a-kind trucks that have been decked out and crafted with personality are brought out to screaming crowds that know and love the trucks and drivers.
Similarly to the characters created in WWE Wrestling, Monster Trucks bring on a life of their own.
Truck Specifics
Every one of the trucks on the field is over 10 feet tall, 12 feet wide, and sits heavy at over 10,000 pounds. Additionally, each of these things pumps around 1,500 horsepower and rolls on tires that rise up 66 inches.
The truck frames are crafted and re-crafted time and time again after shows. The beautiful work done on these monsters is a big part of the reason that Monster Truck culture has lasted so long, giving rise to cultural icons like Gravedigger and Bigfoot.
When the Show Begins
There are a lot of preconceived notions about what a Monster Jam is and how it operates.
Most people imagine the proceedings to be some kind of cage-match-free for all where trucks ram at each other at as high of speeds as possible. Don’t get down on yourself for thinking that, because it’s what most people imagine a Monster Jam to be.
The idea floating around is that Jams are like rodeos, where each event is punctuated when someone flails off and lands on the ground (which is pretty fun, too.)
In reality, there isn’t too much doom and gloom involved. Drivers aren’t put into too much danger, and there isn’t a whole lot of destruction. In fact, there may be a couple of rollovers at the show you attend, but you aren’t likely to see much more than that.
This may be a relief to parents out there who didn’t want to take their small children to an event that involved a lot of danger. Luckily, there isn’t a whole lot of collision, but there is a great deal of jumping, excitement, and competition.
So, while you might not get exactly what you expected, you’ll be in for a treat if you keep an open mind.
What to Expect, How to Prepare
Instead of a free-for, you should expect to see a well-organized procession of events. Events differ from one another, but, generally, you should expect a racing section as well as a freestyle section.
That sounds simple, but imagine the intense roar of multiple massive trucks revving at full capacity, bouncing their way through a huge track, and amping up a crowd. This leads us to our next suggestion: bring ear protection!
1. Prepare for the Sound
Adults may not want to bring anything to muffle the sound, but we suggest that parents bring some kind of ear protection for small children. The experience of a Monster Jam is somewhere between the Daytona 500 and an ACDC concert.
In other words, it can pretty loud, and you should be prepared!
2. Bundle Up
It’s common for people to say that Monster Jams are pretty chilly. If you live in a cold climate, this will certainly be true.
It might be a good idea to pack an extra sweatshirt or jacket just in case you or your little ones get a little cold during all of the excitement.
3. Research Trucks, Come Prepared
If it’s your first time attending a Monster Jam, make sure you show some of the characters and trucks to your kids before you go.
Half of the fun is getting excited when your favorite truck rolls out and cheering for them to do well. It’ll be a lot more engaging if you and your family already have a working knowledge of the active trucks.
Check online and on the news for any events preceding the actual Jam. Many times, a few of the Monster Trucks will take part in a public event to spread awareness of the Jam before it happens.
This is an excellent time to bring your children out to witness the trucks and get excited about the event.
Additionally, you can amplify the fun by creating signs showing your support. If your sign is noticeable enough, there’s a great chance that you’ll show up on the jumbotron, and what kid doesn’t want to see their face on a massive screen?
4. See if You Can Bring Food
Monster Jam can be long events. If you want to experience all of the fun and make a day out of it, you’ll need to get snacks along the way.
That said stadium food and snacks and get terribly expensive, especially if you’re carting around a family of four. So, call ahead and see if you can bring a few snacks and drinks to the event and avoid the costs associated with event foods.
5. Try the Party Pit
If you get Party Pit passes, you can get out onto the field before the show and witness the Monster Trucks up close. This can be a very exciting experience for children.
Additionally, they’ll get to talk to the drivers and get a feel for the good people that are behind the wheel!
