Although the Los Angeles Kings had a brief stay atop the Pacific last week, the question that was still on everyone’s mind after the NHL all star Game weekend is where is that offense?
This King’s defense is as strong as it has ever been and with Goalie Jonathan Quick, who has been playing lights out against some the league’s hottest scoring teams, the Kings have been piling up enough wins to be sitting in the 7th spot in the Western Conference. But with players like Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, Mike Richards, Jack Johnson, Drew Doughty and others there are some serious questions as to why the Kings rank dead last in goals scored. This offense is on pace to complete the season with 182 goals, which is down from last season’s total of 219. Coach Sutter was asked recently if he believed his offense was getting enough shots on goal:
“Shots? We don’t have a shot problem” said Sutter, “If you look in the league, we’re as good as there is as far as shots for and shots against. That’s not a problem. It is getting the skill guys to stay in those tough areas. There are not very many first-shot goals in this league. Usually if it’s a first shot goal, it’s a mistake somewhere.”
If Coach Sutter has anything going for him, it is that this Los Angeles Kings team is really playing hard for him, and slowly but surely this team is starting to put together an identity. That identity will surely be tested as they close out the season with 20 of their remaining 32 games on the road, and although the Kings have been a decent road team so far this season, if Sutter doesn’t start finding away to put more goals up on the scoreboard the Kings could very well find themselves on the outside looking in come playoff time.

Really good information! I have been searching for anything similar to this for quite a while now. Many thanks! The Kings played great yesterday, hopefully can keep it up.
