KINGS Vs BLACKHAWKS 4/0: Captain Dustin Brown overshadowed Jeff Carter’s debut with four points and his second career hat trick as Los Angeles snapped a four-game slide while handing the Chicago Blackhawks its second consecutive loss.
Brown recorded all three of his tallies on special teams, opening with a pair of power-play goals in the first period and scoring shorthanded in the second to complete the hat trick.
Defenseman Willie Mitchell, who signed a contract extension with the Kings on Friday, added a goal and an assist. Jonathan Quick made 19 saves in his seventh shutout of the season as Los Angeles moved back into a tie for the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference.
The lowest scoring team in the NHL, the Kings traded for the veteran Carter on Thursday. That move lifted some of the pressure from Brown, who has also been the subject of trade rumors.
After clinching is first multi-goal game of the season in the first, Brown forced a turnover with the Blackhawks on the power play early in the second period. The 27-year-old quickly turned up ice and received a perfect feed from Mitchell in the slot before slipping it past Corey Crawford for the hat trick and his 17th tally of the season.
