The Carolina Panthers led by rookie quarterback Cam Newton in 2011 improved from a 2-14 record to 6-10. The team was also led by rookie head coach Ron Rivera. The Panthers will need Cam to continue his success while Rivera improves the teams defense.

Cam is coming off a 2011 season in which he set an NFL record for most passing yards by a rookie and most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. Cam who proved all of his doubters wrong in his first season in the NFL will look to continue the success while avoiding a sophomore slump.

In his rookie season Cam threw for 4051 with 21 passing touchdowns to accompany 706 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns. Look for Cam to get more efficient in the passing game while turning over the ball less in 2012.

In order for Carolina to succeed in a quarterback driven NFC south will need Cam to take another stride in 2012. A key acquistion for the Panthers was the pick up of Joe Adams in the NFL draft which will help in the return game setting up better field position for the offense. The team also made a key pickup in the first round grabbing Luke Kuechly out of Boston College to help on the defensive side of the ball.

The Panthers will improve in 2012 to a 8-8 or 9-7 record but will fall short in the NFC South with their time fast approaching.
