South Park lovers rejoice! The latest innovation from the genius and brains behind the absolutely deplorable and un-p.c. trademark cartoon has brought to life the hottest Broadway show yet. The Book of Mormon, like most good theatrical pieces, is an entirely satirical point of view on religion as a whole and uses the Book of Mormon as a vehicle for which to demonstrate. Two young and earnest missionaries are sent off to Africa to a remote and war-torn village, impoverished and famished and battling an AIDS epidemic where they are attempting to spread The Book of Mormon seemingly in vain. One of the missionaries does not even know the Book of Mormon very well. The handsome and vain and ever-popular Elder Price is paired up with the chubby, insecure and not-so-pleasant Elder Cunningham. After much praying to be sent to Orlando, FL for his two-year mission, Price is sure that he has a great destiny waiting for him while the friend-less Cunningham is just happy to have what he considers his new best friend. The Book of Mormon takes the odd duo through quite the laughable journey. And of course no good story is told without the true heartwarming core at its foundation.
The Book of Mormon features six main characters. Since its 2011 Broadway debut, the Book of Mormon has been making waves. It has won nine Tony Awards and a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album. When the original Book of Mormon album was released in May 2011 it became the highest-charting Broadway album released in over four decades and hit its peak at No. 3 on the Billboard charts. The Book of Mormon was seven years in development for Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who teamed up with Avenue Q’s very own Robert Lopez. So far the Book of Mormon has debuted on Broadway as an original Broadway production. The Book of Mormon already has plans for the 2012 US Tour, a 2012 Chicago Tour and a 2012 London Tour. As a part of the 2012 U.S. Tour, the Book of Mormon has big plans for the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, CA.
