Most of the performances have pricy tickets, and the only way to drive the price down is to purchase them in blocks (more on this later). However, certain upper seat sections are available on certain days for only one dollar.
These typically are available for particular genres (such as jazz and classical). But you can’t beat the value when it comes to hearing world-class music without breaking the bank!
2. Seating Charts
When it comes to Hollywood Bowl seating, we have good news and bad news. The good news is that there are no bad seats. The bad news is that some seats are still better than others!
It’s important to consult the seating chart online so you can understand exactly where you will be sitting. You’ll also be able to select from a variety of different seating options.
The best seats in the house are box seats: these give the best view and even have enhanced dining options. Other seating options include stadium and bench seating.
By planning ahead of time, you can make the most out of your musical experience.
3. Travel Plan
Everyone enjoys the event once they get there. However, “getting there” can often be a very stressful event!
For example, parking at the event is very limited. Instead of stressing about a parking space, you can take advantage of the park and ride locations or the numerous event shuttles.
Locals may also consider taking the Metro Red Line and then shuttling or walking to the event. Ultimately, the best travel choice comes down to individual preferences.
4. Multiple Entrances
One of the worst things about the Hollywood Bowl is the waiting. Once you get to the event, you may be stuck behind a crazy long line as everyone tries to the box office that is closest to the plaza.
However, most people don’t realize there are multiple entrances. And you can use this knowledge to your advantage!
Instead of going to that first entrance, walk up the hill. You will find two other entrances: the mid-gate entrance and the west gate entrance.
It’s true that this involves a bit more walking than at the first entrance. But in our book, walking is always better than waiting.
5. The Right Supplies
When you go to this event, you know that you’re going to be there all day. That’s why it is so important to bring the right supplies with you.
At the very least, you will want to bring comfortable shoes and other comfy clothing. You’ll be alternating between long periods of walking and sitting, so dress accordingly.
The weather and temperature may change during the day. By packing a blanket or light outerwear, you can be prepared if things get chilly.
Because you’ll be in the sun all day, we recommend bringing sunscreen. And packing a seat cushion can keep you much comfier than you would be on a standard seat!
6. Mix and Match
It’s possible to simply buy one ticket at a time for the different performances you want to see. However, you’ll get the greatest value out of mixing and matching.
For example, you can buy five tickets (or more) at a time and get a voucher that is good for a free concert. Or you can save money by purchasing tickets as part of a group of 10 or more people.
You can also become a subscriber and buy ticket packages for as few as three performances and as many as 10. This also gives you the opportunity to receive additional discounts, and you’ll have the first pick of available concerts and seats.
7. Supper in Your Seat
When it comes to food, it’s possible to bring your own (more on this in a minute). But you should know what your other dining options are.
First, there are pre-prepared items from catering services available. There is also counter service available, which offers you a diversity of both selection and price.
You can also purchase “picnic boxes” of food options created by award-winning chefs. And those with box seats can order special “supper in your seat” options for a more traditional restaurant experience.
8. Days Gone By
Part of the fun of going to the Hollywood Bowl is that you are going to a historic event. But do you know enough about that history to appreciate it?
The Hollywood Bowl Museum is available for anyone who wants to see the past come to life. There are official tours and self-guided tours that allow you to learn about the musicians and culture that made this event into what it is today.
