Ysmael Alexander Carmona is a right-handed relief pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Born on February 12, 1985, the 27 year old pitcher hails from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. He attended Collegio Cristiano El Alfarero.

Standing at 6’1″ and weighing 190 lbs, the dextral Carmona joined the Angels in November, 2010. His professional career started with the minor league LA Angels of Anaheim farm team, Arizona League Angels, in 2006, going 0-0 with a 13.09 ERA in 10 games. He spent the 2007 season recovering from an injury to his ulnar collateral ligament.

He played for the Iowa-based class A minor league baseball team Cedar Rapid Kernels in 2008, pitching in 44 games, going 2-4 with a 5.37 ERA.

In 2009, he pitched in 42 games for the California-based class A advanced team, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He was able to post a record of 0-8 and registered a career-high 20 saves, which was 4th in California League. He registered an ERA of 5.74 over 42 1/3 innings while playing with the Quakes.

2010 saw him playing for two different minor league teams. He played 38 games with the Travelers, a class AA team based in Little Rock, Arkansas, registering a 4-2 record with 12 saves and a 2.60 ERA. He also managed to walk 34 batters and strike out 52 during his stint in Arkansas. He was promoted to the class AAA Salt Lake Bees, whom he played for in 6 games. He rendered the opposing team scoreless in   5 of his 6 appearances, proving effective particularly effective against sinistral batters whom he limited to a .165 (14/85) clip overall. His combined stat for both teams is listed at 5-3, with an ERA of 2.66 in 44 games.
