This year's selection for the reserve All Starts might have surprised many of us. It also didn't give the opportunity for players that have never been in an All Star game to join this year, despite their supreme performances up to this point of the season. Jamal Crawford was one of those players that were greatly expected to come up as a selection for an All-Star roster spot. Why didn't he make it? Did he deserve to be there?
Judging from his great season performance and the numbers he's putting in almost every night then we could say that he surely had to be chosen as an All Star. In fact his playing has been at an All-Star level the whole season. He's the second scorer for the Los Angeles Clippers with almost 17 points per game in less than 30 minutes. Many of those shots have been clutch and also 4-point attempts and he's boost to the success of our team this season has been crucial. As usual, team success plays a great role when coaches and fans select their All Star candidates.
Crawford, aged 32, might not have many chances in the following years to participate in an All-Star challenge but that's not the only reason he should have been selected. In fact, it is really difficult for a player that doesn't start for his team to be voted as an All-Star, even if his performance is way better than some players who are starters.
The whole voting looks a bit odd this year. Players like Stephen Curry, Crawford and even J.R. Smith should get a chance to refresh the All-Star game. Yes of course, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan are great players and deserve all the best, but they have been All-Stars for what 15 times? Don't you think that we should also give the chance and the honor to new players to be a part of this great celebration? I'm not talking about gifting them a spot. They well deserve it.
I'm sure every Clippers fan is excited to have two of our stars, Paul and Griffin as the Western All-Star starters, but this time we really deserved also to have Crawford as a representative. Plus, you don't have to be a LA's fan to see this, it was clear. Let's hope that Crawford retains his great performance also next year for our team and gets then a chance to be an All Star. He is sure an All Star in our hearts and minds.
