The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a story that takes you back to 1482 in Paris, France. The story is told by Clopin the puppeteer. On the Festival of Fools day, Quasimodo, the gentle but deformed bell ringer, is crowned the Pope of Fools.

Quasimodo was nearly killed as a baby by Claude Frollo, the cruel Minister of Justice. But the Archdeacon of Nortre Dame forced Frollo to raise Quasimodo as his own. Quasimodo grew up to be a young man and was hidden in the bell tower of the cathedral. But during the Festival of Fools, Quasimodo and his friends take part in the festivities and he meets Esmeralda, the lively gypsy girl and Phoebus, the handsome soldier. All three join against Frollo’s cruelty. It is up to Quasimodo to defend Esmeralda and the cathedral of Notre Dame.

Frollo has his eyes on Esmeralda and attempts to murder Phoebus in a jealous fit. The frustrated Frollo, whose advances were rebuffed by Esmeralda, condemns her to death. As she is led to the gallows to be hung, Quasimodo swings down by the bell rope of the cathedral and sweeps Esmeralda off to safety. In spite of his best efforts, Quasimodo could not save Esmeralda.
