How the Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical
The classic children's holiday story that has been beloved by generation after generation is back on Broadway. 'Dr Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas!' is the musical adaptation of the Dr. Seuss classic book 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas'. Originally performed at the Old Globe Theatre, San Diego , 'Dr Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas!' has run every Christmas season since 1998. It then moved from the Globe to Broadway with book and lyrics by Timothy Mason, the original score by Mel Marvin. The Broadway show was directed by Matt August and created by 3-time Tony Award-winning director Jack O'Brien. On November 8, 2006, the Broadway production debuted at the Hilton Theatre for the Christmas season and closed on January 7, 2007. What made this production unique was the fact that it was the first Broadway musical to offer an astounding 12 performances a week. In the first week alone, of December 2006, the musical topped the Broadway Box office and put an end to Wicked's top-grossing streak that had lasted an incredible 100 weeks.
Critically hailed, the New York Times states that "An extraordinary performance! Patrick Page, The Grinch, has brought his A-game. It's 100 times better than any bedside story."
The musical features hit songs such as "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" that were from the original animated series. Broadway favorite Patrick Page is the Grinch and his performance is not to be missed.
The magical quality of the loved classic that Seuss completed in 1957 transfers to the stage with the help of wondrous music and breathtaking sets. Max the Dog is the narrator as the Grinch's evil plan to steal Christmas from the Whos unfolds. But to the Grinch's surprise he soon discovers that there's more to Christmas than he originally thought. Coincidentally, this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of the book.
