Disney's Aladdin is based on the Arabian tales. It is the story of a cheeky street urchin in the mythical city of Agrabah . Aladdin is wrongly accused of kidnapping the beautiful young princess of Agrabah, Jasmine. The princess herself is trying to escape the parental pressure of having to choose one of the incompetent Princes her father has assembled for her, as a husband. Jasmine is determined to marry only the person she truly loves. Aladdin and his monkey friend Abu land smack in the middle of the royal drama.
The evil Jafar who is the Sultan's advisor, throws Aladdin in jail. Jafar has been plotting to rule the kingdom with the help of a mysterious magic lamp. Only a “diamond in the rough” can retrieve the lamp from the Cave of Wonders or so the saying goes. Jafar realizes that Aladdin, who is right under his nose, is the only person who can enter the Cave of Wonders and get the lamp for him.
The clever Aladdin retrieves the lamp and accidentally discovers the Genie inside. The Genie becomes Aladdin's loyal sidekick and grants him his every wish. He turns into a Prince hoping to impress Jasmine, but the Princess can marry only a true Prince.
