STAPLES CENTER HISTORY:

The Los Angeles STAPLES Center serves as an entertainment Mecca to Los Angeles 's 22 million inhabitants. It has made several marks in the history books since its grand opening in 1999. Currently the only arena in the U.S. and all of North America to have three tiers of suite seating, the STAPLES Center is also the first facility in the U.S. and all of North America to have five professional sports teams stake their claim and call it home: the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA), the Los Angeles Clippers (NBA), the Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA), the Los Angeles Avengers (AFL), and the Los Angeles Kings (NHL). Even when it first opened, it was home to three teams, and that was a record for North America .

At slightly less than a million square feet, the STAPLES Center was the largest Sports Arena undertaking in PCL Construction Services' history in Southern California . They gave themselves a daunting 18-month deadline to finish the STAPLES Center . So, one year-and-a-half and a whopping $375 million later, the final product consisted of: 3 restaurants, 24 concession stands, 2,400 premier seats, and a whopping 20,000 seats during basketball season, and 18,500 for hockey.

STAPLES CENTER TODAY:

The STAPLES Center continues to set records with its entertainment and sports venues. On October 6 th , 2008, the STAPLES Center hosted Walking With Dinosaurs and set its own venue record as the highest grossing family show to date. The live show grossed, in just 8 shows, earnings of $3.28 million; third only to the Honda Center in Anaheim, and New York's Madison Square Garden, which grossed $3.3 million over the course of 10 shows, and 4.8 million over the course of 12 shows, respectively.

The STAPLES Center puts on roughly 250 events each year, and it is known for its sold-out events. It's Garth Brooks concert in January 2008, sold out 85,000 tickets in just 59 minutes. Already in 2008 it hosted the likes of Tina Turner, Jenni Rivera, Neil Diamond, Bon Jovi, and many more. Earlier in 2008 the STAPLES Center awarded Oscar De La Hoya with a statue just outside its front doors.

THE STAPLES CENTER LAKERS- CELEB-FEST!:

There is nothing quite like experiencing a live Los Angeles Lakers game. Los Angeles Lakers fans flock to the STAPLES Center not just to see the infamous Lakers at play, but also its usual list of celebrities known for scooping up the best seats in the house. During any given Lakers game you will likely find STAPLES Center staple, literally, Jack Nicholson. So strong is his dedication, Jack Nicholson was awarded with the first STAPLES Center Plaza star for his commitment to the team. Other likely familiar faces include Dyan Cannon, Denzel Washington and his wife, Magic Johnson, and "Allie McBeal" producer David Kelley.

Last years NBA Championship was a seeming all-time celebrity turn-out high, with, according to AP Sports writer Beth Harris, "Chris Rock blends in three rows back, while Dustin Hoffman and wife, Lisa, are at midcourse a pair rows up. Steven Spielberg goes low key in a baseball cap, while actress Rebecca de Mornay, her blond hair smooth, sits in the first row of the stands. At the opposite end of that row, actress Salma Hayek (without boyfriend Edward Norton this game) sits with her gal pals." Jim Carrey and Michael Clarke Duncan cheered the Lakers on as well.

With 130 seats on the STAPLES Center courtside, during the Lakers game, the tickets average roughly $1,150 per game. It is no wonder these seats are sought out by the stars- after all, they want only the best!
