Gershwin Theater
This intimate 476 seat theatre, named after the legendary composer, had been the home of the Center's Yiddish Theatre Series, the only place in the borough preserving this unique, joyous art-form which today has become the Jewish Gems series.
In addition, the Brooklyn College Theatre Department presents its Mainstage Productions on this stage. Alumni greats such as the late "Skipper" Davidson , Bernie Barrow (who for seven years portrayed the title character in the award winning daytime drama Ryan's Hope) , director Wilson Lehr and Jimmy Smits (of LA LAW and NYPD BLUE fame ) have each plied their craft before it's footlights.
Also dozens of student and faculty music recitals and concerts are given each year in this theatre by the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music.
It is difficult to point out without our pride showing, that this theatre was the site chosen by President Bill Clinton to hold a "town meeting" to discuss his US Peace Corp initiative.
The theatre is equipped with spaces for wheelchair seating with companion seats, as well as an infrared hearing assist system and wheelchair accessible rest-rooms.
