As of the moment, the Angels of Anaheim has no formal announcements about signing Mark Teixeira. According to general manager Tony Reagins, he had not met with Scott Boras yet and he can’t discuss it publicly. He needs to talk with Boras at the right time and right place.

The Angels has exclusive negotiating rights with free agent Teixeira until November 14. After that, Teixeira will be joining the rest of the free world where other teams like the Red Sox, Yankees and Orioles can choose him as an option.

Moreover, Reagins has five other free agents to consider namely, Garret Anderson, Jon Garland, Francisco Rodriguez, Juan Rivera and Darren Oliver. The team knows how to move forward and they’re going to be respectful of both sides.

“I don't think there's a clear-cut favorite [in the Teixeira derby]. There will come a point where we'll have to make a decision -- whether we're in or not. We don't want to jeopardize other decisions we have to make,” Reagins said.

On the other hand, Teixeira enjoyed his 58 games with the Angels, right up to that disappointing Game 4 in Boston in the American League Division Series. The switch-hitting masher arrived on the scene on July 29, at the cost of Casey Kotchman and Steve Marek, and was simply one of the game's most productive players, offensively and defensively, in his time with the Angels. Batting third in the Angel order, Teixeira hit .358 with 13 home runs and 43 RBI after the trade to help his new team to their first 100 win season in franchise history. Teixeira has become the best all-around player in the game.

“He's a priority,” Reagins said, “and we have a high level of interest. He's a talented ballplayer, and being able to watch him every day was eye-opening,” he added.

On the other hand, Anderson, Rodriguez, Oliver, Rivera and Garland know the lay of the Orange County land. The earnest efforts of Reagins to keep any of the six free agents have not yet started, beyond the initial stage of expressing mutual interest.

However, regarding the reports that Jake Peavy might entertain the prospect of coming to Anaheim in a multi-player deal, Reagins can’t imagine it may happen with that number of players.

Mark Teixeira, a 28-year old outstanding player enjoyed being with the Angels of Anaheim. He is mainly a first baseman but has also played at third base in the outfield. Reagins was also impressed of his performance. However, the organization also has to consider other factors of acquiring players because this process is the crucial part during offseason.
