It was not a good day for the team of LA Dodgers. Kyle Lohse was in synch with catcher Yadier Molina from his first pitch to his last, and everything else took care of itself for the St. Louis Cardinals' right-hander in his third scoreless outing of the season. Lohse won for the first time in almost a month, scattering six hits over six innings without walking a batter and beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 on Saturday night. The only thing that put a damper on the proceedings was a post-game trip to the hospital for third baseman Troy Glaus, who was pinch-hit for in the ninth after complaining of stomach discomfort. In addition, Lohse struck out five while recording his first victory since April 27 against Houston. Coming off consecutive no-decisions against Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay, he allowed only one runner past second base. That was in the sixth, when Jeff Kent flied out with two men in scoring position.

Furthermore,after sweeping a three-game series from Cincinnati, the Dodgers have dropped the first two in this three-game set and are 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position. "We're not going a very good job swinging the bats right now," manager Joe Torre said. "We're getting a little bit impatient. We've basically shut out the opposition in 16 of 18 innings and lose two games." Brad Penny gave up four runs and four hits over seven innings on his 30th birthday, striking out five and walking two. The defeat gave the two-time All-Star one more than he had all of last season, when he tied a personal high with 16 victories and finished with a career-best 3.03 ERA. Penny walked Adam Kennedy and Skip Schumaker with two out, then gave up an RBI single to Chris Duncan and an RBI double to Albert Pujols before Rick Ankiel capped the rally with a two-run double. In three of the four games this season in which Penny has given up four runs in an inning, those were the only runs he allowed. "It didn't matter if I gave up one run tonight. Those guys were executing pitches over there," Penny said. "I think I threw the ball pretty well with the exception of two hitters. For me, I probably felt I the best I've felt in five years, stuff-wise."

Just before the game the Dodgers placed center fielder Andruw Jones on the 15-day disabled list because of an injured right knee that will require surgery and sideline him at least 4-6 weeks. The five-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner is hitting .165 with two homers and seven RBIs in 43 games. In addition to this, Jones, who signed a two-year, $36.2 million contract last winter after 12 distinguished seasons with the Atlanta Braves, hasn't exactly been a profitable investment for general manager Ned Colletti. Dr. Neal Elahrache, the Dodgers' orthopedic surgeon, will perform the surgery on Tuesday at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic.
