The game of the LA Dodgers versus Houston was indeed a thrilling one. It was seen by a crowd of 31,914 that include supporters of both teams. The game was held on a Tuesday evening at the Minute Maid Park.

Luis Maza smacked the team of Houston catcher Humberto Quintero in the helmet with his bat as he finished his swing on a flyout during the second inning. Quintero lay motionless as trainer Dave Labossiere and manager Cecil Cooper came out to check on him. Quintero needed help leaving the field and was replaced by Brad Ausmus. Tests were negative; however, after the game, the Houston placed Quintero on the 15-day disabled list and recalled J.R. Towles from Triple-A Round Rock.

In the sixth inning, Martin added an RBI single off Oscar Villareal to bring the LA Dodgers leading by 6-1. Ty Wigginton launched Houston’s comeback with a three-run homer in the sixth off Brian Falkenborg, ruining a strong start from rookie Clayton Kershaw. The 20-year-old left-hander gave up three runs and six hits in his eighth career start.

Moreover, the LA Dodgers stretched the lead to 5-1, chasing Wandy Rodriguez after five innings. Rodriguez's five earned runs and four walks matched season highs. In addition, the RBI single of Russell Martin off Villareal gave the team at least six runs for the second time in 11 games. Wigginton then homered over the right-field wall, just out of Andre Ethier's reach. It was the first run allowed by the Dodgers' bullpen in 15 2-3 innings.

During the seventh inning, Hong-Chih Kuo relieved and walked Michael Bourn with one out. Jonathan Broxton relieved and walked Lance Berkman before Carlos Lee doubled off the left-field scoreboard to tie the game. Chan Ho Park got Lance Berkman to fly out to finish the ninth inning, and pitched a scoreless tenth inning. Takashi Saito pitched a perfect eleventh for his 13th save, after Jeff Kent homered off Wright.

"Every time you're up by five runs and a team battles back and scores some runs, it's always tough," said Russell Martin. "There's not many wins that come easily."

The LA Dodgers finally found some offense and a way to beat the Houston Astros. Jeff Kent homered off Wesley Wright during the eleventh inning to give the LA Dodgers, who blew a five-run lead, a 7-6 win on that Tuesday night game. In addition, Kent also had an RBI double and Russell Martin hit a two-run homer as the Dodgers needed to match their highest run total since June 19 to beat the Astros for the first time in five meetings this season.

The Dodgers had scored one run or fewer in five of its previous seven games. Ty Wigginton hit a three-run homer and Carlos Lee tied the game with a two-run double, but the team of Houston couldn't overcome a rare poor home start from Wandy Rodriguez. The LA Dodgers scored five runs off Rodriguez, who came in with a 2.64 ERA at Minute Maid Park in 21 starts over the last two seasons. The Houston Astros did not come close to scoring again and the LA Dodgers snapped a three-game losing streak in extra-inning games. According to Dodgers Manager Joe Torre, the need to win the game was there.

The game was enjoyed by the crowd as the LA Dodgers were delighted that they won the game.
