Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Tampa Bay Rays World Series Tickets
The 2008 League Championships are upon us, and for the Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays, they are both all in. This year the Tampa Bay Rays had an American League finish of 97 wins to 65 losses. The Dodgers only finished at 84 wins to 78 losses. The Tampa Bay Rays and the Dodgers will each fight for their chance at the World Series in their own individual match-ups, parallel to each other in the League Championships. This Friday the Tampa Bay Rays will face the Boston Red Sox, while the Dodgers will go up against the Phillies.
The last time the Tampa Bay Rays faced the Dodgers on the field, they creamed them in a 9-4 sweep. That was in 2007. They only played three games against each other that year. The Rays lost the first match against the Dodgers 3-6, barely won the second game in a 4-3 victory, and in their third match the Rays really stepped it up.
The Tampa Bay Rays, since their initiation as a team in Major League Baseball, have had nothing but season after consecutive season of staggering losses. However, they are a young team. The Tampa Bay Rays were only created ten years ago and already they are a worthy foe against the Dodgers this year in the 2008 post-season games. Year after year their wins have ranged from a low of only 55 wins in the 2002 season to a peak of 70 wins in the 2004 season. This year the Tampa Bay Rays did a full 180 from last season, where they had 96 losses to this season, with 97 wins.
How did this team flip it around, and how will the Tampa Bay Rays fare against the Dodgers? If we take a look at the Tampa Bay Rays, this year has been much more than just players luck. Rays pitcher James Shields was drafted to the team as an amateur in 2000. He began to stand out as a note-worthy pitcher somewhere in the 2007 season when May 2007 he had two phenomenal games, one of which entailed a nine-inning shutout, the other where he held thirteen batters in a row. . Then in April earlier this year, he was named the American League Pitcher of the Week after the April 27 th against the Boston Red Sox where the Sox only finagled two hits out of Shields.
So what does this mean, this great pitching by the Tampa Bay Rays? For the Dodgers, it means batters on both teams that have an opposing force to reckon with on the pitchers mound. The Dodgers pitchers are so esteemed they are celebrities in their own right. Hiroki Kuroda made baseball history in their last game of the Division Series against the Chicago Cubs when for all six of his innings, not one Cub got past the home plate.
And so the Tampa Bay Rays will embark on their League Championship games against the Boston Red Sox, who just killed the Angels in the Division Series, while the Dodgers face the Phillies. Hopefully, for those who salivate at the thought of the Dodgers and Rays playing each other once more, we will see how each team's pitchers hold up. How their strengths are played up, and their weaknesses played down, so we hope. It would be one more history in the making if each team makes it to the World Series. For the Tampa Bay Rays, this will put their team on the MLB map as a force to be reckoned with. For most, it seems the Dodgers have never been hotter, and for the Tampa Bay Rays and their fans, nothing would be sweeter than to watch the unassuming underdog come out on top.
