Los Angeles Dodgers win 6-5 over the Arizona Diamondbacks
The LA Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks faced once again for their third game of the four game series. The exciting game was held at the Chase Field on Tuesday night. The game was witnessed by a crowd of 28,734 of fans and supporters of both teams.
The team of Arizona Diamondbacks captured the first score in the first inning. On the other hand, in the second inning, the LA Dodgers tied the score on a two-run homer by James Loney, his third in 12 games since he was promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas. Chris Young hit his 11th homer in the second to give the Arizona Diamondbacks a leading score of 3-2. Nomar Garciaparra started at third for the first time since 2005, when he was with the Chicago Cubs. Garciaparra was 0-for-5 and struck out with the bases loaded in the ninth inning. Garciaparra is 4-for-23 on the Dodgers' 10-game road trip. Grady Little said, “Right now, he's having a tough time, but he will get through it.” Meanwhile, Eric Byrnes, Chris Young and Reynolds each homered for the team of Diamondbacks. Byrnes led off the first with his team-high 13th homer. To make it 2-0, Stephen Drew tripled and scored on Orlando Hudson's groundout. James Loney followed an RBI double in the fourth inning, when the LA Dodgers scored three times to take a leading score of 5-3. Starter Chad Billingsley drove in the other two runs with a double to the wall in right center field. In the bottom of the inning, Mark Reynolds hit a two-run homer to left, his fifth in 35 games since he was recalled from Double-A Mobile.
That move made it 5-5, and that score stood until the 10th. The Diamondbacks didn't put another runner in scoring position after the fourth.
As Arizona manager Bob Melvin said, “Obviously, it's a tough game to lose, especially the way we started out scoring some runs,” he continued, “We had some energy early, put some runs on the board. They had one more.” Gonzalez gave up five runs on six hits, walking two and striking out two.
The highlight of the game was through Tony Abreu as he hit for his first major league homer. It was a solo shot that lifted the LA Dodgers to a 6-5 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks in 10 innings. Abreu traded an autographed ball and one of teammate Ramon Martinez' bats, in exchange for his home run ball. Abreu said through an interpreter, “It brings me a lot of joy. I'm just going to keep it there”. Tony Abreu hit a 1-1 changeup from Doug Slaten (3-1) into the left field seats with two outs in the tenth. Slaten stated, “I left it over the plate, up.” He continued, “It was right out there on a tee for him. He took advantage of it.”
Through their victory, the team of LA Dodgers took over first place in the tightly contested NL West, a half-game ahead of Arizona and San Diego. The LA Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 6th time in 7 games. The Tuesday night game was considered as a tough one because the team they faced doesn’t have many weaknesses, according to closer, Takashi Saito.
The game was enjoyed by the fans and supporters of both teams. The players were successful as they manifested great skills, excellent determination and strive to win the victory.
