Dodgers’ Halloween

The Dodgers participated in another exciting event. The LA Dodgers celebrated Halloween with LA-area children, a free event that featured hayrides on the warning track, balloon-makers and stilt walkers, face painters in the dugout, jack-o-lanterns and spooky music, and lots of candies. This is part of an ongoing effort by the Dodgers to keep the community involved at Dodger Stadium, even when there are no games played there until the 2009 season.

It was an exciting event as hundreds of children wearing costumes took the field at Dodger Stadium on Friday afternoon.

"It's a small gesture by [team owners] Frank and Jamie McCourt, but a big deal to the children," said Dodgers executive vice president Dr. Charles A. Steinberg. "Jamie and Frank have four sons, and they drive us to welcome families to Dodger Stadium, whether it's in-season or offseason. It's another way for the Dodgers to say 'thank you.'"

Moreover, former Dodgers stars "Sweet Lou" Johnson, Bobby Castillo and Ken Landreaux met parents and children, posed for photos, and signed autographs. As a traditional Halloween celebration, costumes included Cinderella and Batman, as well as Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion. There was also a family who brought their dog, presumably Toto, too.

Mrs. Beasley's provided the cupcakes and Kettle Pop donated the popcorn. Not just the kids but also the adults in attendance had a lot of fun.

"The look of wonder in the eyes of the children as they step on the field or see themselves on the DodgerVision is so uplifting," Steinberg said. "We say that the Dodgers are the heart of L.A., and that Dodger Stadium is in the heart of Dodgertown. It felt like that tonight. It's great to have nearly a thousand family members at a community gathering place -- it's their home for the holidays."

Moreover, the Dodgers will host The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's annual "Walk to Cure Diabetes," on Saturday. The 5k run/walk is expected to attract as many as 20,000 walkers, including former Dodgers player Todd Zeile and his family and special guests Nick Jonas and Tears For Fears founder Curt Smith.

Furthermore, there are more events planned, including the "Under The Lights" batting practice on the 21st of November, hosted by Dodgers players Russell Martin and Andre Ethier and the organization's annual holiday party for local kids in December.

Over the past years, the LA Dodgers was active participating different events for the community. This is just a way of the team to extend their deepest gratitude to their supporters and for the nation as well.
