The game of the LA Dodgers and White Sox was a fantastic one. It was held at the Dodger Stadium on a Tuesday night that was attended by a crowd of 43,900 supporters who really had a great time.
During the first inning, Nick Swisher hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly and Orlando Cabrera singled home a run in the second inning. That was all Buehrle needed; the left-hander allowed one run and six hits, fanning pinch-hitter Mark Sweeney in the eighth for his 1,000th strikeout.
The opening game has started by Mark Buehrle in each of the three interleague series between the White Sox and LA Dodgers - and didn't walk a batter in any of them. "Buehrle's one player I don't have to worry about, as long as he's healthy," said Guillen. In addition, 7 of the 13 games Buehrle has started this season have been played in under 2:30 - four of them lasting 2:10 or less. "I think Buehrle's stuff is the reason he's successful, more so than how quickly he works. But there are a lot of advantages to working quickly," Dodgers manager Joe Torre stated. "Not only are you putting the hitter on his heels a little bit, but your infielders play better behind you."
However, teams facing Mark Buehrle often end up leaving the ballpark early. Buehrle pulled a fast one on the LA Dodgers with eight solid innings, and the Chicago White Sox snapped a nine-game road losing streak with a 6-1 win Tuesday night. "I think everybody likes it when I'm pitching," said Buehrle, working on at least six days' rest for the third time this season and the first time since April 26. Jermaine Dye hit a two-run homer for the White Sox, who were coming off a three-game sweep by the crosstown rival Cubs at Wrigley Field. "Hallelujah!" manager Ozzie Guillen said when the team of White Sox improved their road record to 18-23. “To win, to make the playoffs, you have to win a lot of games on the road.”
Meanwhile, during the fifth inning, Delwyn Young got the team of Dodgers on the board with a homer, his first since last year's season finale. Second baseman Ramirez helped out Buehrle with a defensive gem in the sixth inning. He raced out to shallow center field and made a sliding catch of Jeff Kent's Texas Leaguer, then threw to first to double off Matt Kemp for an inning-ending double play.
Furthermore, Derek Lowe retired 13 consecutive batters before Carlos Quentin singled with one out and Dye followed with a drive to right-center on the right-hander's 99th pitch for his 17th homer and a 4-1 lead. While Cory Wade gave up an RBI triple to DeWayne Wise and a run-scoring single by Alexei Ramirez. Lowe was charged with five runs and nine hits over 7 1-3 innings and had a season-high eight strikeouts in a matchup of pitchers who have thrown no-hitters, started All-Star games for the American League, and won World Series rings with teams that are known by the color of their Sox. "He's an excellent pitcher. But by the same token, I liked my chances in this game," Lowe said. It was the first time Lowe and Buehrle have started against each other in the big leagues.
The game was enjoyed by the 43,900 supporters who attended the fantastic game. The LA Dodgers will try to do its best to be able to win their games in MLB.
