The Tampa Bay Rays or simply the Rays is one of the youngest franchises in Major League Baseball. The Tampa Bay Rays was started in the early 1998 as an expansion team. The Tampa Bay Rays is homed in Tropicana Field, a large stadium located at 1 Tropicana Drive, St. Petersburg, Florida 33705. Tropicana Field was opened on March 3, 1990. It was constructed at a stunning cost of 130 million dollars. The domed stadium today is currently owned by The City of St. Petersburg. It has a seating capacity of almost 43,500. The stadium was enjoyed by many spectators and avid fans of the team Tampa Bay Rays. The Tampa Bay Rays is playing in the most prestigious and considered as highest level of play in professional baseball, Major League Baseball, as a part of American League in the East Division. The Tampa Bay Rays, or simply the Rays, together with other teams such as Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays are all part of East Division of American League. The Rays uniform colors are composed of green, black, white, and gray. Their mascot was named Raymond, a six-foot, six-inch seadog wearing a Tampa Bay Rays uniform with a jersey number of 00. The team's current manager was a former Minor League catcher who had served in the Angels organization for 31 years, named Joseph John Maddon. The team's Principal Owner was Stuart Sternberg, a well known American businessman who has a passion in Baseball. The Tampa Bay Rays is now considered as one of the hottest team in Major League Baseball. Some of their notable famous fans include Hulk Hogan (professional wrestler), Brian Knobbs (professional wrestler), Silas Simmons (former Negro Leagues baseball player), Rob Szasz (The "Happy Heckler"), and Dick Vitale (College Basketball broadcaster).

As stated above the Rays began their early baseball career in the year 1998. However, it was in the earlier year of 1995 when their history begun. It was in this year when Rays began to build their organization shortly after the franchise was awarded in 1995, by naming former Atlanta Braves assistant general manager Chuck LaMar the senior vice president of baseball operations and general manager. The franchise has first played in minor league in the year 1996. In the following year, on November 7, 1997, Larry Rothschild became the team's manager. Larry Rothschild became the first manager of the team; he soon begun to acquire 35 players in the Expansion Draft. Along with these drafts is the team's future star player Bobby Abreu. However, Bobby Abreu was traded to Philadelphia Phillies for Kevin Stocker. In the year 1998, during the early season, the Rays acquired new talented star players such as Wade Boggs, Fred McGriff, and Wilson Alvarez. The Rays played their first game on March 31, 1998. Their first game was held in their home stadium, Tropicana Field. The game against Detroit Tiger was filled with many highlights. It was a great game that ended in an 11-6 final score in favor of the Detroit Tigers. However, even if Rays lost the game, the team has proven to all that they are ready to compete with the outstanding teams in MLB. On December 13, 1999, the Rays acquired sluggers Vinny Castilla and Greg Vaughn. However, the team continued to struggle for success up to the year 2000. In the following year, in the 2001 season, the Rays changed their team colors and uniforms and also acquired highly-touted outfielder Ben Grieve from Oakland. But the Rays continued to suffer even after they have had many talented players in their team. He Rays decided to build with younger players and drastically reduced the team payroll. They begun to acquire many good players that they are expecting to lead the team as the future key players. However, the team was never improved; the 2002 season would prove to be the worst in franchise history to date. Before entering the 2003 season, the Rays decided to trade Randy Winn to the Seattle Mariners for the right to negotiate with manager Lou Piniella. Lou Piniella was a very famous Tampa native who has great managerial skills. Lou Piniella became interested and accepted the job. By the year 2004 season, many were amazed at the result of the Rays’ move. The team finished with the best record in team history, 70-91. The team falls in 4th place in the American League East. However, the team was soon back to their struggling times. The team, because of their perseverance, soon continued to develop, with the coming of new players such as Aubrey Huff, Carl Crawford, and many more. In the year 2006, the team began to show a vast improvement. Their efforts have finally paid off, making them one of the most outstanding teams in the American League.
