Toronto Blue Jays Information

Blue Jays is a team of Major League Baseball from Toronto, Ontario, in Canada.  The Blue Jays is the only Major League Baseball franchise of Canada, who remarkably won the World Series.

The name of the team, Blue Jays, was selected among the 4,000 names in the name the team contest.  The Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners joined the American League in 1976.  The franchise was initially owned by Labatt’s Breweries, Imperial Trust, Ltd., and the Imperial Bank of Commerce.  In 1977, the Blue Jays tickets amassed a huge sale as the team defeated the Chicago White Sox during their first game with a victory of 9-5. The game was held in Toronto.

The Blue Jays had their first step to success during the 1982 season, having a record of 78-84.  The Blue Jays victoriously won their first winning record of 89-73 during the 1983 season.  During the 1985 season, the team of Blue Jays won their first division title, marginally leading the team of New York Yankees by two games.  In the 1987 season, the Blue Jays posted a record of 96-66, the Blue Jays also finished in second place.  In the 1988 season, the Blue Jays struggled to success with a record of 87-75.  In 1990, the Blue Jays finished in second place.  The team of Blue Jays was defeated by Boston Red Sox (2 games behind).  The Blue Jays also traded Tony Fernandez and Fred McGriff for Joe Carter as well as Roberto Alomar.  The Blue Jays won the division title in the year of 1991, but unfortunately lost to the Minnesota Twins.  Furthermore, Jack Morris was acquired by the Blue Jays after the 1991 season.

During the 1992 season, the Blue Jays continued to be a strong team.  The team had a record of 96-66, encountering the Oakland Athletics in the American League Championship Series.  The Blue Jays won over the Oakland Athletics with four games to two.  The Blue Jays advanced to the World Series coming upon the Atlanta Braves.  During the first game in the World Series, the Blue Jays lost to the Atlanta Braves with 3-1.  The Blue Jays would prevail in the first World Series game played outside the US in the 9th inning as Candy Maldonado knocked home Roberto Alomar with the winning run. In Game 4 the Jays would gain a 3-1 series lead owing to the dominating pitching of Jimmy Key. After being blown out in Game 5 the Jays were compelled to go back to Atlanta where they still needed 1 win to close out the series. The Jays looked on the brink of winning the World Championship with a 2-1 lead in the 9th Inning of Game 6, but the usually reliable Tom Henke let the tying run score and the game went to extra innings. In the 11th Inning, Dave Winfield knocked home 2 runs with a double to give the Jays a 4-2 lead, but the Braves would prove annoying, scoring a run and had the tying run on base with 2 outs when Otis Nixon tried to bunt his way on. Nixon's bunt would be shoved up by Mike Timlin who flipped it to 1B Joe Carter, as the Jays claimed their first World Championship. Fittingly in the first International World Series, Catcher Pat Borders would be designated as series Most Valuable Player.

In the 1993 season, the Blue Jays continued to have consistency in their record that resulted to 95 wins and 67 losses.  The Blue Jays successfully battled the Chicago White Sox 6-3 in the sixth game of the American League Championship Series to win their second straight AL pennant and advance to the World Series against Philadelphia Phillies.  In Game 6 of the World Series, the Blue Jays led by Joe Carter's 3-run home run in the bottom of the ninth, and defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 8-6 at SkyDome to become the first team to capture back-to-back World Series Championships since 1977-78.

After the championship seasons, the team of Blue Jays obtained a season-by-season record of 55-60 in the 1994 season, 56-88 in the 1995 season, 74-88 in the 1996 season, 76-86 in the 1997 season, 88-74 in the 1998 season, 84-78 in the 1999 season, 83-79 in the 2000 season, 80-82 in the 2001 season, 78-84 in the 2002 season, 86-76 in the 2003 season, 67-94 in the 2004 season, 80-82 in the 2005 season, and 87-75 in the 2006 season.

The games of the Blue Jays are indeed outstanding and exciting.  In fact, the Blue
Jays broke their own attendance record with a crowd of 50,518 to push the 1993 season’s home attendance to 4,057,947.  Over the years, the Blue Jays have proven that they have become a team to reckon with.  The Blue Jays is truly one of the outstanding teams of the Major League Baseball.

The Blue Jays is a team that shows dedication, determination, special skills and hard work.  The Blue Jays tickets continue to sell out as the team of Blue Jays continues to play remarkably in the field.  The Blue Jays games are much awaited by fans and Major League Baseball supporters.  If you want to experience a great baseball game, grab some Blue Jays tickets today and have some fun and excitement.
