The Angels of Anaheim versus Oakland game was indeed an exciting one. A crowd of 41,091 have seen the game, which was held at the Angel Stadium on a Wednesday afternoon.

The Athletics placed six-time Gold Glove third baseman Eric Chavez on the 15-day disabled list before the game, due to a sore right shoulder. It's the second trip to the DL this season for Chavez, who didn't make his season debut until the 29th of May after offseason surgery on his back and right shoulder. He had been limited to DH duty since June 22.

Moreover, Casey Kotchman, who drove in three runs with a pair of doubles against Athletics starter Dana Eveland in the Angels' 6-1 win on April 30, was hit in the ribs his second time up by the left-hander in the rematch. Eveland didn't get a chance to face Kotchman again, as manager Bob Geren brought in Keith Foulke to face him with two outs, a runner on second and the A's leading 3-2 in the sixth inning. Kotchman delivered against the right-hander, pulling an inside pitch down the right-field line for a double that scored Torii Hunter with the tying run. Juan Rivera followed with his first homer of the season - a two-run shot over the double-decker bullpen in left to give the Angels a 5-3 leading score.

Aybar scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. Rivera was credited with an RBI on the fielder's choice.
The A's trimmed Angels' lead to 2-1 in the fourth. Bobby Crosby singled, took third on Emil Brown's double into the right-field corner and continued home when Gary Matthews Jr. made a poor relay to Kendrick as he tried to cut it off. Matthews was charged with an error.

The team of Oakland scored an unearned run in the seventh inning on a throwing error at shortstop by Eric Aybar, who erased his mistake in the bottom of the inning with his third homer of the season. Eveland was charged with three runs and four hits over 5 2-3 innings and struck out four. Mark Ellis hit a two-run single for the Athletics in the top of the sixth inning after Joe Saunders walked No. 9 hitter Donnie Murphy to open the inning and Rajai Davis followed with a double off the glove of second baseman Howie Kendrick as he made a diving attempt for the ball in the hole. In addition, Joe Saunders pitched into the seventh inning to match Brandon Webb for the major league lead with his 12th win, and Juan Rivera and Eric Aybar homered in the Angels of Anaheim 7-4 victory against the Athletics on the Wednesday game.

Saunders allowed four runs - two earned - and six hits in 6 1-3 innings to help the team of Angels open up a 5 1/2-game lead over their AL West rivals. The left-hander became the first Angels pitcher with at least 12 wins before the All-Star break since 1991, when Chuck Finley and Mark Langston did it. Furthermore, Francisco Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth for his major league leading 34th save in 36 attempts, tying John Smoltz's 2003 record for the most before the All-Star break.

The Angels of Anaheim was delighted as they have won the game. The team will continue winning their upcoming games in MLB.
