Los Angeles Angels Information
Angels Roster Report
The Angels of Anaheim players absolutely did their best to try to win their games during the 2007 season. The team won their third division title in the past four years with a largely homegrown and very young roster. Their pitching is sound and seems set for 2008. However, their need for more power in their offense, particularly in the middle of the lineup behind the aging tandem of Vladimir Guerrero and Garret Anderson, seems more glaring than ever. It remains to be seen if new general manager Tony Reagins will be more willing to trade than his predecessor, Bill Stoneman.
Fortunately, the Angels finished fourth in the American League in runs scored, an impressive achievement considering their lack of extra-base power. The team finished ninth in the AL in slugging percentage (.417) and hit more home runs than only two teams in the majors. The search for a power threat to complement Vladimir Guerrero in the middle of the lineup will go into its third winter. The Angels could be one of the few teams motivated to meet his asking price, if Alex Rodriguez opts out of his contract with the Yankees and becomes a free agent. But they are more likely to rely on the continued development of their young players to boost the 2008 offense.
Right handed pitcher Bartolo Colon is a free agent of the team. In the first two years of his four-year, $51 million contract, he went 39-20 and won the 2005 AL Cy Young Award. In the last two years, he went 7-13 and couldn't stay healthy. The Angels are not likely to make an offer to re-sign him.

In the last two years, he went 7-13 and couldn't stay healthy. The Angels are not likely to make an offer to re-sign him. On the other hand, players that are eligible for arbitration include; Francisco Rodriguez also a right handed pitcher; Juan Rivera, an outfielder; Maicer Izturis, an infielder; Casey Kotchman a first baseman (possibly a "super two"); and Dallas McPherson, an infielder (possibly a "super two").
The team of Angels of Anaheim will try to avoid arbitration with all five of their eligible players. Particularly, they are likely to return to negotiations for a multiyear deal with Rodriguez. Negotiations the past two years avoided arbitration with one-year deals.
Bill Stoneman, who stepped down shortly after the season, had a well-established reluctance to trade. Stoneman hoarded the team’s young talent for several years now with much of it starting to reach the major leagues. If Tony Reagins wants to alter the offensive makeup of the team, it might take parting with some of the young players such as Casey Kotchman, Joe Saunders and Erick Aybar.
The team will get ready for the next season as they continue to be one of the outstanding teams in MLB.
