Reds Captured 5-3 Victory over the Angels

It was a breathtaking game as the Angels of Anaheim encountered the team of Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday at the Great American Ball Park, in which 23,153 fans supported the game. At first the Cincinnati Reds looked totally lost against the performance of Kelvim Escobar, who had his way with their free-swinging lineup for six innings. And as he was out after the six innings, the mode of the game changed.

In the fourth inning, Josh Hamilton doubled home a run and extended the rally with a strategic slide. Hamilton ran to third on a grounder by Alex Gonzalez and pulled his hand away to keep away from Chone Figgins’ tag, later stretching to get the bag. When David Ross followed with a squeeze bunt, the move paid of for a leading score of 3-2. Manager Mike Scioscia said, “On a couple of defensive plays, we opened the door for them a little bit and they took advantage of it.” He continued, “Kelv certain put us in position to win that game, and we didn't.” Kelvim Escobar struck out a career-high 14, including Ken Griffey Jr. twice in six innings, making the Cincinnati Reds look weak. Kelvim Escobar said, “I was able to put guys away with fastballs, splitters and sliders.” “Everything was working good-my changeup, my fastball. I punched guys out with all of my pitches.” However, with too many throws, all those strikeouts inflated his pitch count to a season-high 116, forcing him out after six innings. Brandon Phillips, a second baseman of the Cincinnati Reds even said, “I’m glad we’re not facing him again.” Moreover, singles by Scott Hatteberg and Phillips off Dustin Moseley (4-1) set up the tiebreaking run, and Griffey's fly to right off Darren Oliver snapped a 3-all tie. Second baseman Erick Aybar’s fielding error let in another run in the eighth inning. Moreover, Casey Kotchman and Gary Matthews Jr. hit solo homers for the Angels, who are 5-2 in interleague play this season.

Kelvim Escobar dominated in the Angels of Anaheim's first game in Cincinnati. His 14 strikeouts were the most by an Angels’ pitcher since Chuck Finley fanned 15 Yankees on the 23rd of May, 1995. Kelvim has pitched two of his greatest games at Great American Ball Park that has been one of the most homer-friendly in the majors since it opened in year 2003. In their last 32 games, the team of the Angels of Anaheim lost for only the ninth time, a streak that has sent them to the top of the American League West. The Angels’ 40-25 mark is considered as the best in franchise history, the 1979, 1980 and 2002 teams had 39 wins at the same point of the season. On the other hand, the Cincinnati Reds stays at the bottom of the National League at 26-39 despite the victory. In addition to this, the team is already looking at things in a much longer viewpoint. The game ended with a 5-3 victory of the Cincinnati Reds over the Angels of Anaheim.
