A Missed Chance of Winning

The Angels of Anaheim had a breathtaking game as John Lackey of Angels of Anaheim gives up five earned runs in seven innings. John Lackey perfect through three innings, had just surrendered his first hit of the day only a batter ago, a line-drive single to center field. As the score went 6-4 in favor of the Minnesota Twins, with two outs, Luis Castillo on second and Michael Cuddyer back at the plate, a passed ball by Mike Napoli moved Luis Castillo to third before being brought home on a lined single to left by Justin Morneau. The Angels of Anaheim fought back in the sixth inning, cutting the Minnesota Twins’ lead to 6-5 through a leadoff home run by Howie Kendrick, the second baseman. However, a pair of Minnesota Twins runs in the ninth effectively secured the game for good rendering Howie Kendrick’s third jack of the season ineffective. It was the fifth inning that eventually snapped the Angels of Anaheim’s five-game win streak. John Lackey finished with seven hits, while letting four earned runs through seven innings of work. John Lackey believes that he had a fine pitching but admits that he threw a bad breaking ball to Michael Cuddyer.

On the other hand, Mike Napoli had two RBI singles to left field, leading the team offensively. He gave the catcher 18 times RBIs in his last 18 games. Moreover, outfielder Reggie Willits as well as baseman Casey Kotchman, each added RBI doubles, while Orlando Cabrera agreed for his defensive miscues with two hits and a run scored, tying him with Ichiro Suzuki, Seattle center fielder for an American League-best 78 hits. The Angels of Anaheim will proceed on a nine-game road trip starting Friday, making stops at St. Louis, Cincinnati as well as cross-town Dodger Stadium to begin Interleague Play.
