Major League Baseball: A brief overview

Major League Baseball (MLB) is the pinnacle level of baseball competition in the world today. Major League Baseball is separated into two leagues, the American League (AL) and the National League (NL). Each of the two leagues are separated into three divisions, the East, the Central and the West. The MLB season opens in April and runs through October. Each team plays 162 regular season games. Any team that wins there respective division is guaranteed a playoff spot. Two other playoff spots are given out to teams competing in the wild-card race (One spot per league). The playoffs begin with the Divisional Series. The winners of the Divisional Series then advance to the League Championship Series (LCS).
