The Houston Texans were founded in 2002 as part of one of the NFL’s more recent expansion. Originally called the Houston Oilers, the Oilers moved to Nashville and are now called the Tennessee Titans. The Houston Texans have had two coaches since their inaugurating year; Dom Capers from 2001 to 2006, and Gary Kubiak from 2006 until the present. Dom Capers was the AP NFL Coach of the Year in 1996 and has formerly coached for some of the best teams in the NFL, including not just the Houston Texans, but the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars, Ohio State, San Jose State, Hawaii, Washington, and Kent State.
Head coach Gary Kubiak now leads the Houston Texans. Formerly Kubiak coached for the Denver Broncos, the San Francisco 49ers, and Texas A&M. Kubiak himself, like so many other NFL coaches, was also an NFL player in the 1983 Draft.
With their home games held at Reliant Stadium, which opened in 2002, the Houston Texans are able to host a seating capacity of 71,500 fans for their home games.
