Sam Williams was signed by the Oakland Raiders to a one-year $700,000 contract. Williams, 27, was the first unrestricted free agent to earn a contract to be with the team in 2008. Since entering the league in 2003, linebacker Sam Williams has not completed a full season. When he was a rookie, he fell with a knee injury and missed fifteen games. By 2005, he missed his sixteen games because he tore his anterior cruciate ligament.
The last season had brought Williams the same fate, as he started in the first four outings of the season before again getting injured. Williams then lost his job to Robert Thomas who was able to finish the 2007 campaign with 62 tackles. Sam Williams, on the other hand, capped off the year with 16 tackles. Unfortunately, that season-tackle total is good enough to rank third overall in his five years, just 11 takedowns from being second-best.
