Soldiers Enjoy Camp Visit
United States Army soldiers together with their guests were given the chance to visit the Oakland Raiders Napa Valley Training Complex in California to watch the evening Training Camp practice. Everyone was excited to witness the efforts of the Raiders as they prepare for their upcoming games. Majority of the soldiers serve as recruiters at stations all through the Bay Area. The station commander at the Antioch, California recruiting station, Sergeant 1st Class Robert Campos helped arrange the visit. “As far as being out here for today, this is dream come true. [I’ve] been a die-hard Raider fan since watching them on NBC out in Merced, [Calif.], the only station we could get out in that area. I was [old] enough to see the first Super Bowl that they won in ’76. Just coming out today is an opportunity of a lifetime,” said SFC Robert Campos. “We were there for the Arizona game, we will be at every home game representing the Raiders and the United States Army. It’s a dream come true to see Mr. [Al] Davis and Mr. [Fred] Biletnikoff. Just seeing the legends and the future Hall of Famers is an excellent dream.”
In addition to this, many of the soldiers who attended practice echoed SFC the sentiments of Robert Campos. “First of all, I was born and raised out of Virginia and I’ve always been a Raiders fan since I was six years old. The first team I’ve ever played on was the Cavalier-Mountain Raiders wearing Marcus Allen’s #32. So for me, it’s like a dream really coming true, plus I get to see my high school friend Ronald Curry, play football again. So it's a pleasure for me to come out and actually be with the team that I always admired all my life,” Sgt. Marcus Dozier stated. “As fellow soldiers we always like to collaborate and do things together, whether it’s being deployed or working together. We always carry ourselves as a family and we orchestrate ourselves as a family. We’ve all got our own things as far as what we like to do and showcase. I’m a die-hard Raider fan, this is my squad right here.”
Furthermore, the soldiers who visited the Oakland Raiders Napa Valley Training Complex also had the chance to chat with and obtain autographs from Raiders players after practice. The guests also posed for photos with their favorite Raiders players. Both the players and the guests were happy. It was a great and unforgettable experience for both the Raiders and US army soldiers, who really enjoyed the day and had a great time.
The team also was privileged to have spent time with the brave soldiers. It was a great time for both parties. The team of Oakland Raiders is getting ready for their next games.
