It was a delightful days for the Oakland Raiders as they invited two coaches and a kicker from abroad to observe the inner workings of the Raiders’ training camp. The representatives from Mexico, China, and Sweden spent a week to see what training camp is all about. “I’m very excited to be here sharing the football field with my football heroes,” as stated by coach Alfredo Flores of Mexico.
The international guests of the Oakland Raiders arrived at camp on Sunday, August 5, and continued their stay through the first pre-season game against the Arizona Cardinals and headed home Sunday, August 12. “They are treating me very well here and I’m really, really thankful and grateful for having the opportunity to get an in-depth look of how the Raiders run a professional organization,” said Chinese kicker Li Chaoran through an interpreter. Upon returning to their home countries, they will use their unique experience to help promote the sport of football and the Oakland Raiders to fans across the world.
In addition to the international coaches and kicker, writers for the Raiders’ German, Tagalog and Japanese web sections were present at camp. The writers were extremely excited to be at camp watching the Team of the Decades practice in the warm sun of Napa Valley. “It has been a great experience so far,” Alex Cukor said, the Raiders German contributor, “There seems to be a ton of enthusiastic energy here.” The writers will continue to promote the Silver and Black to the many thousands of fans around the world and hope to continue the Raiders Commitment to Excellence.
Together with the multilingual writers, the team invited their Spanish radio personnel to Napa Valley. Angel Dinamita and Armando Botello are the official Spanish radio personalities of the team. “It is a good experience for me to be close to the players. Sometimes when we are broadcasting, it is not the same to be upstairs in the radio booth compared to be at the same eye-level as the players. We realize the magnitude of their height, weight, and what they can do on the field,” said Armando Botello. During the season, you can hear their Spanish radio broadcast via KLOK 1170 AM.
Furthermore, Savino Ruvalcaba arrived in Napa to represent KLOK from Univision Radio as the producer of the Raiders Spanish broadcast. “It is a great thing to have a Multicultural Initiatives department at the Raiders to combine different cultures as everyone has the same passion for football,” as stated by Savino Ruvalcaba on the Raiders unique Multicultural efforts to arrange the gathering of all of the guests for the day. “It shows football has come along way from its roots,” Ruvalcaba added.
The Raiders’ Navajo radio play-by-play announcer L.A. Williams and KTNN 660 AM representative Marsha Peshlakai were also invited to Training Camp. Both wanted to see the team practice live to get ready for the Raiders Navajo radio broadcasts for the 2007 season.
Moreover, the international presence at training camp continues to demonstrate the global reach of the Silver and Black. Thousands of international fans help make the Raider Nation vast as they continue to spread the fame of the Oakland Raiders throughout the world.
