Raiders: Game Day Entertainment
It was a Game Day program for the team of Oakland Raiders. With “Football’s Fabulous Females,” the 2007 Junior Raiderettes will take the field for their first performance of 2007 season. They are a team of up to 300 girls from all over the western states led by the Oakland Raiderettes; one of the NFL’s premiere dance and cheerleading squads.
The National Anthem was led by David Casper, who is 28 years of age, a Marin and Sonoma County native. Casper placed his promising singing career on hold to join the U.S. Army, after the 11th of September, 2001. David went from the Middle East, in his five-year military career, as a forward-observer to a soldier with a unique musical mission. David was asked if he would audition for the 101st Airborne Division Band as a lead vocalist, after performing Amazing Grace at a fellow soldier’s memorial. He jumped at the offer and was deployed for a second tour to Iraq in 2005-2006 as a vocalist. David Casper has performed many shows in the Middle East as well as
back home in the U.S as an Army vocalist. Furthermore, he is now out of the Army and is a full-time student at Expression College for Digital Arts where he is earning his BA in Motion Graphic Design. He is a Petaluma resident and is married to a dental-hygenist named Courtney who are both season ticket holders. “We've always been die-hard Raider fans and attended a couple of games a year but we wanted to be season ticket holders starting this season because we know that 2007 will be the start of something special,” said Casper.
Meanwhile, the East Oakland Youth Development Center or EOYDC kids will be demonstrating their athleticism by running an on-field obstacle course, for the Halftime show. Their mission is based on solid research which demonstrates that interventions that engage youth from high risk environments in forming relationships with adults, mastering a skill and contributing to their own well-being and that of their community have been found to be highly effective in preventing at-risk behaviors such as dropping out of school, substance abuse, juvenile delinquency and teenage pregnancy. It strives to incorporate as well, the supports and opportunities of relationship building, youth and community involvement and skill building. The EOYDC accomplish this mission by offering educational, cultural, artistic expression and recreation programs that meet the holistic needs of the individual. The three core programs that describe the EOYDC’s purpose are Project J.O.Y., Art, and Physical Development. Teaching the youth to embrace their unique cultures and to live and work responsibly and cooperatively with other communities is the primary concern of EOYDC.
The EOYDC understands that many of the youth and their families who participate in its programs often face barriers to participating fully in their community. The EOYDC further recognizes that individuals must be given an opportunity to learn marketable skills, attain a basic education and participate in motivating and inspiring activities. The EOYDC believes that self-empowerment comes through work experience and educational opportunities.
It was an excellent time for the Oakland Raiders. The team is successful with their off season activities and ready to face another stage of their career for this coming season, as outstanding NFL players.
